It's almost wide enough to take off ACROSS the deck!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Interesting.  Its wide enough to have two ski jumps over the bow.  Double the sortie rate? ;)

Well the original design selected was 20m longer and the Ski jump took up all of the bows in a kuznetsov style. There were two runways set up with JBDs, one in the existing position, and the other offset between the Islands. This would allow for rapid launching in rapid succession of two aircraft.
When the design was shortened in the cost drive a section of the hull was removed fwd of the bridge, this not only shortened the hanger, and the flight deck but it also pushed the launch position further aft, the 2nd off set position would now be too close to the 2nd island and was therefore deleted. Without this there is no need to the large ski jump and the area to the side is now better served as a deck park, especially as capacity was lost with the shortening. (BTW the 20m shortening also means the Catapults on the CTOL PA2 design now foul the angled landing deck preventing simultaneous take off and landing cycles)

Wow, that is SOME aircraft carrier there!

In this case, I guess the above-deck structures could be called an "archipelago" instead of merely an "island"!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Me, I'm dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest.
Honestly, it's the honest ones you have to watch out for!!!

Oh yes , i picked up the paper in Smiths when it came out, and has proved invaluablein refining the detailling, also highlight some bits not shown elswhere, such as the escape chutes under the walkways.

Cheers

Just found a couple of newer images on the BAE Systems gallery showing both carriers together, unfotunatley it made me realise that the port qtr Phalanx platform was too shallow, so have had to remove, deepen it by a deck, refit it and then re-blend in with the port side sponson. GRR

Plus last week there has been some heated discussion on some forums with regard to the CVF switching from the STOVL F-35B to the CTOL F-18E/F operation !!!. Don't worry its too late to change this one back again, so she will be completed. If the riumours are true then it becomes a Cancelled project and will sit nicely next to my CVA-01.

I have however procurred Super Hornets in 1/700 so my 2nd hull can be completed in CTOL format as that doesn't yet have the top layer of the flight deck or the sponsons created so i should be able to revise the format for CATOBAR  ;D

Will add some updated photos once the current CVF has had the revised platform bnlended in and the remaining surface details added to deck edges and Islands prio to actual fitting out.

Finally finished the various platforms yesterday and attached the Islands. Gave it a coast of primer for defect checking before continuing with painting & detailing.

Took the part build CVF to put with here earlier namesake HMS Queen Elizabeth to the Elvington show today.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Mossie

Looked great at the Elvington show Geoff alongside CVA-01.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thorvic

Well there is still quite a bit to do, i primed it to do a defect check once the major parts and details were fitted but prior fo fitting out so she can be painted once any noticable surface defects are dealt with.

The ironic thing is that she may become a project cancelled build come October if the MOD decide to switch to CTOL !!, gut in the meantime i hope to press on and complete her in time for SMW as per her current design.

I thought it would be a nice touch to pose her next to her CVA-01 predessor to give an idea on size & shape, whilst looking huge they are still about 30-50m shorter than their US counterparts, and are more in line with the cancelled US CVV design.

Sawn the ski-jump off yet, Geoff?

anthonyp

With recent news, the ski-jump CVF is now an insta-whif  ;D

Unless, of course, they use my idea of a shortened catapult plus a ski-jump bow, ala my Canadian CVV design...

I exist to pi$$ others off!!!
