Snag number one.

Today at work a PC fell off a rack, pointy end first, into the edge of my foot.  No break, but the doc said I did darn near as much damage as possible without breaking it.  So I'm on horse tranquilizers and I have to keep off it for the next 3 days.  The crutches suck, and while I'm on the meds, my wife has forebade me to go near my Dremel (Which is wise, I'd sand off a finger and probably giggle.  Percocet is strong...)

So I'm going to go back to paper to design a torpedo rack, and...

A ram.

I want something like this: http://www.archaeology.org/online/features/virtualheritage/project3.html

Ouch, that just sucks man.  I know what percocet can do to the mind, I had to take them two at a time once for dry socket - wow, my world did funky things for those two weeks, and I didn't do much of anything.  Harsh stuff, good idea to stay away from the dremel and stuff.

Ramming is always a beefy idea, have to admit, with the bow design of the Iowa, it might be interesting to design it.  You could always turn the bow into a bit more of a double-prong shearing ram so to speak, like a V blade along the bow form.

Overkill? Nah, it's Insurance.  So are the 20" guns.

Oooh, bad luck..... :banghead: Right decision to stay away from power tools: there are days when I realise I'm "dangerous to user" with a craft knife and that's without drugs....

Suggestion: instead of a ventral hanger, why not have shuttlecraft (or whatever) landing on the fantail and dropping down into a hangar below it:

Fit an extended deck on top of the exisiting AAA bases: the slight separation from the main deck would reinforce the idea of it being a "special" landing deck.

Cut out the (oval?) elevator and put it straight onto the main deck (i.e. slightly recessed relative to the flight deck) which would give the impression of a deep hangar without actually having to build it.

Make the landing deck shaped like stylized bird tail feathers: it would match your wings and reinforce the "clockwork bird" character.

Build up the barbette for the aft electro-cannon so that it superfires anything parked on the flight deck.

Ahh yes, nothing says 19th century quite like an iron ram-bow.  ;D

Great pre-Dreadnought site, navigation is a little clumsy but worthwhile.

Ouch.  Well, enjoy the drugs, if you can come up with this without them, just think of the possibilities! :drink:

How about combining the two weapons into a Torpedo Ram?  There was a flirtation with them in the ironclad era, it's also got some sci-fi credentials, HMS Thunderchild in War of the Worlds was a Torpedo ram. I think Polyphemus' ram would work well with your classical style, maybe have some smaller strakes over & under?

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Very actually, I was one of the writers for FFG's Rogue Trader RPG.  ;)

That and Star Blazers were both BIG inspirations on this build so far.

Well, I can say it is currently in editing, as one of my friends is in fact, editing it.  ;)  Beyond that, I can't say much other than if you go with GW's planned releases for 40k RPG's, you'll probably be right.  I'm not writing part of this one (alas) but I am hoping to get some more work on the RT stuff.

What's a good Aethership for if not to interdict bat-winged pirates?  Am I right?

*Grumbles*

Airbrushing seems to have a bit of a learning curve...  :banghead:

Anyway, got some paint on it, now investigating whether my technique will come along quickly enough, or if I should go brush and rattle can for now.

EDIT:  Random question; If you were going to have a big flying battleship that could interdict enemy ships, you'd want some special Marines for boarding and stuff, yes?  Say a platoon of maybe...US Rocket Marines with jet packs, helmets, and tommy guns and shotguns for forcing the issue.

This thing is taking on a life of it's own.
