Oh NO!  :banghead:

It's back again!

At least it's the full article, with the modelling bit, which is a saving grace.

That model seems to take great pleasure in taunting and haunting Kit dosen't it?

It's driving me NUTS!  :banghead:

Every time I think it's gone from the Net, or at least simmered down a bit, something else pops up about it. What with it being in the Harpoon 4 computer game and on the CIA's 'list of types' it's getting well bizarre by now. It wouldn't be so bad but it's SIXTEEN years old!

I've been building the PR19b for about 10 years now, I even took the bare bones to the SIG meet at Coventry last year, but I've STILL made no progress on it. And there's the original PR19 to build too (the one I did make was the PR19a) for which I have all the parts, but not started it at all.  >:(

LoL!

I second that comment LOL

Serves you right Kit, that has got to be the ultimate back story. So realistic the CIA swallowed it as gospel truth.

That tell's you just how good the story is and how gullible the C(not so)IA are!

What CIA list?
Anyone have it?

Kit tell's it better than any one else of course.

He got a phone call one night from a gent claiming to be a researcher at the CIA, putting togeather a list of the worlds intel/recon aircraft assets., old and new. And that he had found mention of a Meteor PR-19 on the web. But no offical documents could be found, and that a certain Mr K Spackman appeared to be the expert on the aircraft in question. It took a fair while to get the guy to understand that it only exsisted in 1/72nd scale and that the said model was sitting in a display case a few feet from where kit was sitting. Even thou the CIA were finaly happy that it was just fiction, the myth has taken on a life of its own on the web.......

All because some idiot posted up a copy of Kits original magazine article (as displayed in Steve's post at the start of this thread) but minus the build section, just the back story.................

I dont know about the rest of the world, but its become the most notorious what if? model in this country as a result.

Even the staff at the RAF Museum Cosford have heard of it. Every now and then they get the odd idiot turning up demanding to know were the PR-19 is displayed. So far its been there once, last years Shropshire model show. Kit was a little concerned that the Museum people wouldnt look to kindly on us if they found out that the cause of all their hassle was finaly on site.
I always hope for the best.

Almost...........

The guy who called me was a US Navy Lt. working at Langley with the CIA on some research project on PR assets worldwide. He'd read a paper by an American university professor that mentioned the PR19 (!) and had dug deeper at Langley. Apparently they had files on the aircraft somewhere and I'm in the files, thus the contact! Quite how he got my phone no. I'm not going to dig too deeply, but as Martin says he took SOME convincing that the darn thing only existed in 1/72 scale.

He kept on quoting me my own back story's dates about deployments etc. back at me, and I kept on saying 'Well yes, but that's exactly HOW I fitted the story into the real world history'. Viz the twelve missing NF14 serials, there really ARE twelve missing ones. And 13 Sqdn was in  two different places at the same time in 1956, and so it goes on.

Eventually he realised the awful truth but I'm not sure if he updated the files. As the two references above note, it keeps ON coming back at me. <sigh>
