Dave is killing me with his loop hole on multi winged aircraft  ;D

I named the category the way I did because we see more than just biplanes (tri, quad, dozen, etc).  However, he raises a valid point, any Mistel or test carrier aircraft can be noted as having multiple wings, at least for part of the mission.

So, how about some input.  Do these types of craft fit in the multi wing category or put them in the Propeller or Jet cats?

Phil, I'd have to say that although the Mistel/carrier aircraft do, technically, have multiple wings for part of the mission they are not, technically, one aircraft, they are temporarily joined aircraft which operate separate to each other to complete their missions.

If Mistels, especially, were to be included then you would have to include things like Do.217's or He,177's carrying glide-bombs in the category (or to add the "whif" element:- B-17's, Lancasters or 'fixed' Manchesters carrying glide-bombs).

I think my learned friends at work would probably suggest that a composite is one aircraft (note the singular) made up of two or more aeroplanes, one of which is actually a bomb.  A cruise missile is an aircraft so you could equally argue that a Tornado aeroplane carrying Stormshadow ALCMs is in fact one composite aircraft, the components of which operate separate to each other to complete their missions;)

I don't quite get this... There is a "2011 Whiffies" thread... and people keep making submissions in the "2010 Whiffies" thread??? Or am I missing something? Where do I make my own submissions then?

philp

The 2010 thread is for stuff done last year for the upcoming Awards.  2011 is for new stuff done this year which will be voted on next year.

I hope that no-one minds if I promote my own photo-editing work. I'm aware that quite a few forum members here do not visit the "Profiles and CGI" section, and even if they do, they may have overlooked my gallery. After all, photoedition is not very well represented on this forum, and that makes up 90% of my work!

So first of all here's a link to a recap in thumbnail form of all the whifs (over 130 different aircraft) I presented in 2010:
http://aviadesign.online.fr/main-2010.htm

There are many projects that I'm proud of, but allow me to list a few here that have particular significance, either because I consider them as better than the others, or because they have met with particularly good response at the time:

Bell-North American P-57A Airapache

Boeing-Bell XV-16A PLR (Power Lift Rotorcraft)

Boeing F-32A Stratofighter (page linked above also presents a profile view of this)

Cessna P.250 Cloudmaster (XC-106)

De Havilland D.H.98R Musketeer

Douglas DJ-1 (D-558-4) Skystream

Fairchild F/A-10G Thunderblow (page linked above also presents a 3-view of this)

Handley-Page Sea Victor Mk. 1

Hughes H-12 Hornet, H-18 Hussar and D-2 Hawkeye family

Lockheed Martin StarViper (YA-25A) (page linked above also presents a 3-view and color profile of this)

McDonnell Model 28B Vampire

MDD-BAC-Aerospatiale Skystreak II (RS-76A) (page linked above also presents a black version of this)

McDonnell Douglas 268 Kestrel (YF-118A "Have News")

North American Trojanliner (C-13A)

North American Rapier and Avro Arrow in flight

Northrop Grumman Raider (B-3A)

Vought V-443 Cutlass II (YF-103A)

Profiles would take up too much space here I guess, so let me just add a handful of the most interesting ones:

Grumman G-55-2 Bobcat (C-104)

Grumman G-105-2 Caracal

Lockheed 2022 Quad-Lightning

Vought Kingfisher II (ES-5A)

Of course, you can find these and a lot more on the page I mentioned earlier (all the aircraft that appear there have been presented on this forum during 2010):
http://aviadesign.online.fr/main-2010.htm

Sorry about the amount of projects I selected. It may seem quite a lot, but choosing less than 25 out of more than 130 projects was kind of a headache! Hope those who haven't visited before like some of the stuff... Thanks to you all for your attention!

Ok gang, the sway thread is now closed.

I will work on getting the General Nomination polls up as soon as possible (still on page 3 right now).
