Ok, the year is 1/3rd of the way over and we have a total of 28 nominations so far.  There have been some great builds being passed by and some neat profiles and Alt histories that have not made it to this thread.

Maybe the Whiffies has already run it's course.

I hope not? I have quite a few builds and alt stories on my thread below, including the German Lanc and soviet spook, but I would feel weird if I was nominating myself all the time. This may be the reason why so many builds are passed by as members wait to be nominated?

Perhaps a new direction needs to be taken with this process? Perhaps a group of moderators or volunteer members could act as an official commitee and put forward nominations so great builds are not missed?
Just a thought.

i hope not too.....i only just got here and thought the last one was great fun

i think the idea of the 'commitee' is a good one.....a set of people who keep an eye on things and pick worthy ones.....as long as those people can be trusted to be impartial

I don't think so Phil - we've had similar lulls in the past where there have been no whiffy nominations, then a few cracking models are built and the nominations come back.

Personally, I only nominate something that I think has a genuine chance of winning - partly so as not to swamp you with non-runners, but mainly because I see the Whiffies about being the best of the best.  I'm more of a quality guy than a quantity guy myself, whereas I know you like to see as many nominated as possible.  My own personal opinion is that if it hasn't been nominated by someone, it doesn't deserve to be nominated.  And oftentimes the subjects that I deem whiffy-worthy are already in this thread by the time I get here.

Nev,
Thanks for the input.  I am not necessarily a Quanitity guy over Quality as the more there is, the more I have to do to put it together. However, there have been a few good builds that seem to get passed over, especially if they are buried in a thread that may not get the attention.  Not sure if there are places people just don't look, there are some neat builds and profiles done up in the Alt History section.  Heck, even I come across things that have been sitting for a bit that I missed the first time and sometimes don't even know about them till they show up in this thread.
I like the idea of only nominating what you think are the best but don't forget the other categories which may not get the attention.  Figures, Sci-Fi, Auto and dioramas always seem low on the list and I like to see them have at least the 5 required.  Most improved and Most Helpful also seem to get bypassed.  We always have plenty in the alt camo, jets, props, kitbashed and even armor has been doing well but biplanes depends on the year.
I also have no problem with nominating your own stuff if you feel that it qualifies.  Figure that is about the only way I will get one of mine in (if I finish anything).

TC and beowulf,
The idea of a committee to keep an eye out and nominate the best is a good one but hard to handle.  I am lucky if I can coerce 1 or 2 others to help me with the final part.  Getting a year long commitment to be responsible to make sure we are going through the whole forum so we don't miss something worthy is probably not going to happen.
That is why this part of the system can be done by anyone and hopefully, everyone. I may watch a particular set of threads more than others and this could cause me to miss something spectacular.  But someone else has already seen that because that is their area of interest.  Also, what may be the best builds to you aren't necessarily the best to someone else.  That is where the voting aspect at the end comes into play.  It is decided by the majority.

I am sorry but I don't want to be the person responsible for nominating half of the categories.  I prefer to take on the task at the end to put the polls together and try and come up with an entertaining Awards Ceremony.  I just need a little support.

I would like to nominate Steve Lewis's (FAR148)two F-15E build threads (jointly, I s'pose), here http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,28191.0.html and here http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,27726.0.html, simply for their clarity and presentation..... Also in the same category, Macals' stunning 'Crane Tiger' http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,27612.30.html.

All 'in-progress' as this is written, but the thrads themselves are just crammed with quality.

Thanks guys.

And Ian, I love the "no pressure" approach for these in progress builds.  Make sure you let them know of the nominations so they have that extra incentive to finish (and yes, I have been watching those builds myself).

I don't know what to nominate it for exactly because it fits into several categories: Hog Award, scratchbuilt, camo, best sci fi etc. I just know I love it!
