Curtiss Sparrowhawk units?

No, I'm not going to build a 1/72 USS Akron!

I'm trying to find the number of the USN Squadron that operated the F9C-2s from the USS Akron and Macon. All the refs talk about is '....the USS Akron's Air group', or Macon of course. But presumably they must had had a VF or VCS number surely?

Anyone any ideas?

I will have to check my references, but I don't believe they had a separate squadron per sae but rather were simply part of the Airship's compliment.

My references refer to the "Akron Heavier-Than-Air (HTA) Unit", however after the the loss of the
Akron and the commissioning of Macon (which first flew a few weeks after the loss of the Akron)
it becomes just "the HTA unit".

The major markings change is that after the Macon came into service the unofficial "Man on the Flying Trapeze"
unit emblem was ordered removed and the tails were painted black.

Thanks for that, I knew about the 'Akron HTA Unit' but I assumed they changed the name when they moved to the Macon. i DIDN'T know they'd changed the markings after the loss of the Akron. Were the black tails some sort of mourning band perhaps?

No I think it was just for identification. Navy fighters had their tails painted different colors based on their carrier.
