Mike Wren in the Airfix thread has pointed out that an Airfix Kit is listed on the trade sheets that is not currently in the Catalogue or announced.
Its Airfix A08011 Release Date: 4th Qtr 2010 RRP £19.99.

Sounds like this could be the Manga variant of the TSR2 with added rocket boosters and anti meteor missile flown by rather young Japanese pilots in a prone 'motorcycle' style position and launched Zell fashion from a mobile MAZ type ICBM mobile launcher.

The Stratos IV Manage YV series was mainly the reason for the kits enormous popularity in Japan and why the predicted worldwide export orders were exceeed by just the one Japanese wholesaler which led to the 10,000 production run going up nearly 50% !!!.

Looks like they have requested more and Airfix are doing a dedicated variant which i suspect will be announced at the trade show in Europe or possibly held over till the next Japanese Trade show.

The fact thats its not in the catalogue, that its marketed as the Stratos IV could indicate that this aimed mainly for the Japanese market, so if you want any please request from your local LMS so they can reserve stock.

Is this kit any way back-dateable to a standard 1/72 TSR2 is THE question of course? Either by just leaving some parts off or by surgery, radical or otherwise?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Though I feel bad about pimping this whenever Stratos 4 comes up....this is basically all the mods that the TSR-2MS has in that show plus the Stratos 4 Advance OVA, minus the ZELL boosters and the anti-meteor missile it carries on a ventral hardpoint. One big thing that a lot of people miss is the RCS thrusters in the nose. There are some in the wing tips too, but I need to research the positioning again.

I watched the entire show + special + OVA and I think I matched it pretty well. I still have to go back and do the other three paint schemes from the show, plus draw the boosters and missile.

Sorry, but it aint a TSR-2. Depends who you speak to, but Spitfire came up several times today. TSR-2 was a series 7 kit (A07004), and this is seies 8. Airfix themselves said it was BT-K originally (supported by a Google search), but I queried this as £19.99 rrp was a little steep for a bagged and headed kit, which they agreed, and then said it was definatly a Spitfire. I also had someone tell me it was a Lancia Stratos 4 (but the last time this was released it was a series 6)

I don't think 19.99 is that bad for a TSR 2 with a lot of nice extra bits

Well this is how to turn a 1/144 TSR-2 into a 1/144 TSR-2/MS  Stratos type

An abridged  build

Launch truck!  - a MAZ & Faun are compared and the Maz perfered as closet fit to anime. Interestingly the chasiss from a 1/72 flatbed/trailer was choses and the the Maz body also remounted to the same height!

any help!?

I can get any screencaps of the aircraft from the anime if anyone needs them. TSR-2MS, MiG-31MS, Yak trainer, YB-60, etc. I'm also getting the Stratos 4 Visual Book and plan on redoing my TSR-2MS profile (and doing up the other versions).

The Airfix kit is on display at Nuremberg but I've only seen it in the background of some shots of other kits. It definitely has the centreline bomb and underwing boosters.

That would probably be the aircraft in the bottom right hand corner of the pic on this page.... http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Ausstellungen/Nuernberg2010/Bilder/Helms/album/slides/Nuernberg2010_VH_043.html

and top left of this pic..... http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Ausstellungen/Nuernberg2010/Bilder/Helms/album/slides/Nuernberg2010_VH_046.html

Yep, that's the TSR-2MS in those. The markings on it in the first picture are an odd rendition of the markings from the last part of the original show and the Stratos 4 Advance OVA. The second picture oddly shows fins on the finless Trident missile.

TsrJoe

im guessing the model shown at Nurenberg is merely a promotional mockup for display, the missile having no real resemblance to the 'Trident' missile used in the 'Stratos 4 ' series

cheers, joe

hmm...now who's going to bring out the decals to do the differing schemes? (along with a set of 'Ministry of Space' roundels too!) ... any takers ?

More then likely! I'm going to be drawing up the decals for my profiles anyway, so it someone wants them, and I have help with sizing them, I can design them for y'all. (Btw, the 'MS' stands for 'Meteor Sweepers')

PR19_Kit

So having sorted out that the mystery device really IS the 1/72 TRS2 kit with added bits, all we need to know now is will be it be available on the UK market, and that we won't have to re-import them from Japan.........?

Apart from availability, does anyone know how much financial pain two or three might cause?

I have some serious thoughts about an alternative RAF build!
