First up....

From "The Boys Friend", 31st March 1900....

"Bombardment of London. The French at our doors."
"BRITAIN INVADED"
"Invasion is no wild dream of the imaginitive novelist, the threat of an invasion of our beloved shore. It is stolidly discussed in French and Russian....aye, and German.....newspapers......In the secret offices of the French and Russian Armies, there lie piles of papers, plans, maps and much reliable intelligence concerning the state of the military and naval defences of these islands."

Discuss, lol ;D
Once you've visited the land of the Loonies, a return is never far away.....

Still His (or Her) Majesty, Queen Caroline of the Midlands, Resident Drag Queen

Have no fear, in the story...or a similar one from the period as the UK was seen as being constantly under threat...the Russians are repulsed from their invasion at Edinburgh, and, of course, the French get a mighty stuffing and we, in turn, invade France (again!!) successfully (again!!) and win.
Hurrah!!

How soon afterwards do they buy all our power stations, railway companies and defence industries?
