It's looking pretty good, if you ask me.  The only thing I see is a few spots where you may have held the airbrush still just a hair long.  I do that all the time.  You pause for just a second without releasing the trigger or letting up on the paint flow, and you get a little spot that stands out.  I usually hit the model with some 2,000 afterwards, and that's usually enough to even it all out.

The pics are nice and sharp, too!   Good camera.

I have been watching this and your previous posts Dunc, and have stockpiled the styrene card, the super glue, gaffer tape, staples, putty, concrete, expanding foam etc, ready for when I build mine

Looking great Duncan, I'd heard the horror stories about this kit but this is the first time I've seen how bad the fit is! I just hope my 1/48th kit isn't that bad.

Looks good!  The ECM pods are really impressive.  Too bad those are not available in 1/48th scale.  What are your plans for the nuke that came in the kit?  Are you going to put that on something other than a Mirage ?

Yes, the 48th scale kit is just as bad if not worse than the smaller 72nd scale kit, just consider it an enlarged version with the same problems save for the ventrally mounted RADAR antenna which is molded into the larger model.

One of the coolest camos around on one of the most beautiful aircraft around! Instant win!

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

While I would love to have seen this continue in the SAAF direction, I'm still looking forward to result in IDF colours.

As for difficulties with the Heller kit, yeah she's a bit nasty collection of styrene, but by no means insurmountable.

Good for you.  I was concerned you were going to turn it into a fuel tank based on the original Mirage IV topic you started and the comment you had made about your plans for that thing.  As hard as they are to come by in 1/48th scale or 1/72nd scale you have a very rare item that should not be wasted on converting into a fuel tank.  By the way, on the 48th scale Mirage IV I did a test fit of the original style Sargent-Fletcher 600 gallon fuel tank from the F-4 Phantom and found that it fits very well in to that recess on the Mirage IV so you have source for something else that will fit with minimal modification.  Something to keep that in mind for any future projects with your other Mirage IV kits.

Oh don't worry, a SAAF Mirage IV is still going to happen, just in a larger scale....

Duncan

That will surpass this Mirage IV as the coolest of the year. Unless you build it next year

Duncan,

Please explain that masking technique, I've not seen it before.

Looks like squished and rolled lengths of Blu-Tack with some sort of glop spread in the middle.......
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit,

it's blu-tak rolled into sausages by hand and applied to demarcate the outer edges of the camo pattern, then inside the sausages is filled with liquid latex that you can buy from Hobbycraft. I find I need two coats of the stuff as a single coat invariably has little pinholes where air bubbles have burst and let the sprayed paint through (ask me how I know, go on....  :banghead: ).

Duncan

Exactly the same masking method I use, except I use humbrol Maskol to fill in with

Lance have a look in hobbycraft for Geedo Latex, works out cheaper than Maskol and less runny and smelly.

Looking forward to more of this work, Duncan - the Lavi looks quite sleek as well, one of these days I'll own one.  Thanks for the IV btw - I have a dire feeling she'll look absolutely sinister loaded up with conventional payload.
