not yet Ray it's still in the modelling cupboard   but I will one day....

I thought I would see it on the tables of ScaleACT this year :D

Ray
I'll be away on hols and can't attend
at the swap and sell I wonder if you could get a 1/48 Fw 190A model for me please and I'll reimburse you?
One of the cheaper, older Fujimi or Hasegawa jobbies will be okay---I found some of the lovely eagle decals that I want to put on the nose
Thanks if you can help,
Allan
in a few days I may mask off the yellow and put on a coat of green just to do some work on it

Allan

or Otaki would be okay too for the FW...and
if you see a crappy 1/48 Kawasaki Hien I would like one of those as well
Best,
Allan

Allan

Ray, you've kickstarted me into action and I've being doing some masking of the yellow leading edges...it's a two night job and will be finished tomorrow I think...then perhaps mask the wheel wells and slap on a coat of light grey or something on the undersides before deciding what to do with the upper surfaces and the cockpits
Allan

Allan

masking of the yellow is now complete, piccies later, and so I can now anoint the plane with some white on the outer reaches of the wings and some palish green--Humbrol matt 120 if you're about to head of the shop--on the lower surfaces, but before doing that I'm going to dry bush some of the yellow onto the edges of the tape to prevent paint bleed

Allan

I really should be working on the cockpits and canopies, but decided to do a little spraying of the white on which I will place rising sun decals, wings only....these piccies also show the wing masking....I dabbed on some yellow against the tape to block off the white and greens that will come later

Holy Makarov that's huge ! Love the look so far. The way the paint looks now is really intriguing. Can't wait !

Where's my beer ?

Allan

thanks fellows....more progress to report: I cemented in the two outer seats just to give the model floors to cement the undercarriage onto later....I'll whiteglue some small fishing weights to the seats of these cockpits to give the model a little more weight to avoid tailsitting and then cement the canopies....they'll be just painted over.. undercarriage: do you think all three should be attached or can I get by with no undercarriage on the middle fuselage section only?

zenrat

I think i'd put mainwheels under each nacelle but a nosewheel only under the middle nose.

Allan

yes, mate, I think that might be the go...four sets of wheels under all four nacelles and nose wheel only on the central section...then I can use the nose undercarriage doors on the two outer sections to close up the two outer nose wheelwells..one thing though and that is the wing dihedral...I can fit all four nacelle undercarriage onto the plane at the same time, but then the outer two will be raised off the ground a little bit..maybe attach the two inner ones first and then find some way to extend the length of the two outer ones to ensure that all four touch the ground equally.....or I can attach the two outer ones first and then shorten the inner ones so that all four meet the ground equally...the latter course of action might be the better because it's always easier to remove plastic than add it it

zenrat

How about using a tubular socket arrangement for the inner legs so you can adjust their length by sliding them up into the socket?
Then glue on the outer ones and the nose wheel and then when it's all dry glue the inner ones, sit it on it's wheels on a flat surface and adjust the length of the inners so they sit on the deck.

That's the best way to do an aircraft with more than three gear legs for sure.

I did that, or similar, on my Tri-Stang, with SIX legs it was a case of 'chose any three' before someone (maybe Fred?) suggested the sliding leg trick.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

It's a variation on how I get model cars to sit on all 4 wheels.  The trick is the flat surface.  My bench is far from flat so I use the glass turntable from an old microwave.
I can't remember suggesting how to get the wheels to all be on the deck on the Tristang Kit.  To be honest I didn't realise it had that many legs!
