Howard,
Yes, but cockpit detailing will be done last. And I may have to stratchbuild a larger tailplane or possibly steal one from a 1/72 (48?) Lancaster or Halibag and change the shape.

Hi all,
I've used white glue, as usual, to cement some fishing weights into the engine nacelles to prevent the plane turning into a tailsitter. The round radial engines may play host to some more weights as well.

Alan

Are you going to finish this in time for the Canberra comp in May?

Cheers

Allan

Here's what I'm up against re lengthening the fuselage.
Allan
and yes, I'd like to have this bird finished by May, but sadly may not be possible.

Allan

Hi fellows,
Here's the Uhu as it stands and here're the plastic girders I've decided to use (first photo).
I've cut the fus halves in two just behind the wing and need to lengthen the halves by 13.5 centimeters.
The girders have been cemented into place to the front halves of the fus with the tail section of one half only also cemented into position.
What I think I'll do next is cement the upper tail half to the lower one and then cement some sort of wedge (cut from one of the girders)  between the two girders to hold everything in place.

Allan - man , that is one long fuse extension.  I generally try to use the bits from the other fuselages - they are generally the correct profile and if you get cunning with the cuts - you might only end up only one sanding line  - and man - you gonna need one hell of a cabinet to store/display it.

Must admit - I though of doing a 4 engine Ju88 - using a push-pull approach.  But I am a silly bugger - I work in 48 scale.  I got the bits - I just gotta get the courage.

First I had to finish the 48 scale Me109 with twin jumos conversion.  and then finish the wasserjadger 262 - aquatic version, like the SeaDart.

Anyway, yours in looking really good - even HOT.

Cheers and thanks for the pep talk

Alan,

That'll be the short version then I guess?  ;D

Looks incredible, I can't wait to see the finished device.

the Uhu is one of those aircraft that just looks smooth and purposeful like a shark...making it bigger will make it even better!

Personally I would have split the fuselage extension roughly 1/4 before the wings and 3/4 after them. To me that looks as if it will be dragging its donkey down the runway before it even gets anywhere near take off speed !!

Thanks fellows, and Gondor I agree with you about it being a maybe tail-dragger.
What do you think about some sort of auxilliary tailwheel as pictured, along with the wedges I was talking about? The tailwheel could sort of fold back into shallow slots in the fuselage. That way I won't have to waste time putting weights here and there in the fus and engines.

With some seriuous incidence on the wing it wouldn't need to rotate much, it would just lift off in the same position, like a B-47 or B-52.

I decided that this plane looks ridiculous with such a lengthy fuselage and so after mature reflection decided to take Gondor's advice and do some surgery, resulting in a 5 centimeter chunk being transferred from the fus to just behind the cockpit.
I'll do some more sanding before cementing the cockpit to its new home.

That's looking great Allan

I look forward to what you do with the wings
