Flying/space battleships

Since flying/skiing/steampunking/rocketing battleships seem to be all the rage at the moment, here's an idea:

You know how some kits have the option to do either waterline or full hull, either by cutting the hull along a pre-scribed line or having separate pieces? Well why not exploit that? Split the hull along the waterline, but then re-attached it with a gap, the gap being filling by greeblies: pop-out-weapons, shuttle/fighter bays, telescopic doomsday weapon, whatever.

You know it makes no sense, so do it.......

On a related note, I read a description today of a film supposedly in development based on the classic "Battleship" game.  The film is said to be directed by Peter Berg, and stars Jeremy Renner in the story of a naval force which defends Earth from alien invaders.

BTW, your "quick and dirty" space battleship reminded me instantly of a retro-styled version of the Nova-class dreadnought from Babylon 5.  Like so:

Here's another thought: since space battleships are subject to neither drag nor topweigt considerations, how about a really excessive superstructure right in the middle, thus giving better turret arcs? More Kongo than a Kongo, basically.

Allocated to a spaceship build are:

USS Missouri, USS Arizona, HMS Prince of Wales (already started), and numerous Kongo class Japanese battleships. Oh, a Tirpitz too.

Battlefleet Gothics Imperial ships are pretty much based on classical warships, with those big rams up front & bit of GW gothicyness thrown in for good measure.

Which USS MISSOURI?  There is the WWII-Korea version and the Modernized Desert Storm version.  Both have fun extra parts, however the final product may look vastly different depending on which kit was used.  When I built my Spacecruiser Wisconsin, I used a kit from Trumpeter that had the Desert Storm version (missile launchers!).

Using the old Monogram/Revell 1/535th Missouri.....basic, a fun build, and massive scope for extras to be added....a true customised Space Battleship. Also a bargain at around £6.50.

Also, I've been thinking about the colours:

For the Aerial Battle Fleets, then various shades of grey, blue or even pink seem sensible. And how about Sky, the greenish hue used by the RAF and RN??
Mottles on German or Italian Battleships?
Natural Metal on US Aerial Battleships?
What about colourful unit markings?
What about "art"??....What other markings?
National insignia?

For Space Battleships:
Anything, from bright to dark, with every pattern imaginable, markings galore, sometimes weathered, sometimes not.

From a strictly rational POV, camouflage is pointless in space because you can't hide your heat signature against that cold a background. Then again, these are space-battleships we're talking about, so "rational" can get back in it's box and shut up. I still think bright colours would be more fun though: what about national car racing colours? British Racing Green for the Brits, silver for the Germans, Bugatti Blue for the Italians etc....?

Another thought: why not put clear domes over some of the AAA "pits" to make a "dome farm" amidships? You could use soft toy eyes.

Yet another thought: since Zvezda now make those splendid Imperial Russian pre-dreadnoughts, why not use them for an older Victorian/Steampunk style ship, possibly flying over Mars in Space 1889 style?

Many many years ago I built a Revell SMS Emden as a space cruiser on the Mars-Earth "run"

I've 4 pre-Dreadnought Russian jobbies "in the stash" earmarked for Aerial or Spaceship conversion.

Agrred, space camouflage is pointless and bright colours should abound. There's some degree of employing diruptive camouflage, though, for aerial warships, ready to disrupt the aim of the enemy.

Continuing with a build I began some time ago. It's a Prince of Wales as a Galactic Space Battleship. just building/adding sub assemblies and barious other bits and pieces. It'll take some time to put it all together.

It'll be called "The White Raven" from the "Raven Class" of Space Battleships operated by The Norse.
