Well you'd surely beat him in the turns Hobbes. For a big bird, the 747 turns a pretty tight circle.

QuoteLancer, there's no "special story" I can tell about an Akrotiri based Lightning (or anything else?) is there??
I take it you mean me?

Most of my Dads stories of Akrotiri involve drinking, sun, drinking, barbeques, drinking, sunbathing, drinking, snorkelling, drinking and occasionally working on planes!

Although there was the time he was on QRA and there was a nuclear armed Vulcan there....

I think it's time for somebody to pull rank around here......unless somebody volunteers first !

We should build all of Mikey's birds !

I'd volunteer, but he didn't do a CDN one !

:P

The Kraut looks rather tasty, thou.....

And too bad about the folks, Nev...I hate hearing stuff like that !

I bought 6 of the Tamiya 1/100 scale kits from HLJ as "What- if" canvases, I mean they were only the equivalent of two pounds fifty from them!

Not a bad little kit either and will have a little character when built.

I'm gonna have ta get an inkjet printer I think.
Actually, with THAT shape, I think it would be more like the "Viagra SR-71" or "Trojans" SR-71.

But then, thats my inside my head voices talking

Yes, the Lightning is up front, because it needs a clear path for when the fuel's red light goes on on about 5 minutes.

I'll see what I can do...  ;)

The big Airfix Lightnig will take time. It's such a lovely kit. I've begun it, but now it'll be a Competition entry in the Nats at Telford in South American markings, probably on a diorama....worth it to hear the JMNs!!!
So I've just ordered two Hasegawa F-6s in 1/72nd (which'll be flying, on picture framed bases).....one possibly Taiwanese, the other Japanese?

5 minutes?  I can't see any overwing tanks

Although that tankless 104 off its starboard wing must be getting close to minimum fuel reserve - assuming its not refueled since taking off  :P

104 on internal fuel was better off than a Lightning, IIRC.

I read on the web it could go up to 40 000', then Mach 2 for 2 minutes and have plenty of fuel to cruise back to base and land.
