Those of you with Revell 1:200 Boeing 2707 ssts sitting around from last year's reissue might be interested in the following:

Back in 1966 when the Revell kit was first issued Boeing sent airlines a display version of the same two aircraft set manufactured by the US maker Pacific Miniatures.  Most of these have not survived except in some cases where Airlines like BA (successor to BOAC) have their own collections of memorabilia.

This means that although the swing-wing SST was not a real aircraft you can claim to be making a model of a model issued by Boeing, which I think is pretty worthwhile. What's more the colour schemes for the option holders were taken from their in-service 1966 colours on Boeing 707s (B) or DC8s (D) so the schemes are relatively easy to reproduce as follows:

Aer Lingus(B)
Air Canada (D)
Air France (B)
Air India (B)
Alitalia (D)
American (B)
Braniff (B and D-drawing suggests red scheme was used)
BOAC (B)
Continental (B)
Delta (D)
Eastern (D)
El Al (B)
Iberia (D)
Japan AL (D)
KLM (D)
Northwest (B)
Pakistan (B)
Pan Am (B and D)
Panagra (D)
TWA (B)
United (D)
World (B)

There were a number of other airlines who received models, but you get the idea

Does anyone have one of these re-issues they don't want?

I don't know if it ever got to UK, I never saw it anyway.  :-\

I seem to remember seeing as a kid a larger scale kit of this aircraft but can't seem to find any reference to it.  It wasn't 1/72 and it was bigger than 1/200.  Perhaps it was 1/144 or thereabouts?

You have PM. ;)

Funny you should say that, that's EXACTLY what I thought and I built one of the originals, in the yellow/black scheme, for a local model shop. It was a BIG model, way longer than an Airfix 1/144 scale Concorde, which makes me wonder what scale it was.

And Weaver, your PM read, understand and replied in the affirmative.  ;D

You're welcome!

Oddly enough, there are a slew of ready-made-in-the-Phillipines wooden ones on ebay at the moment....

Yellow and black example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boeing-SST-2707-200-Wood-Model-BIG-/370416692691?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item563e8e2dd3

They also do one in Air Force One markings, which seems a pretty cool idea.

I've fancied doing one in Air Force One markings.  I'd like to do the version with the wheels down in a diorama, with some model railway figures showing the president with a few MiB's present, possibly a band meeting him.  Two things have defeated me, not being able to find the markings & the fact that the front fuselage on the wheels down version is badly warped.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I have one of these sets. One will be MATS in the older scheme with white, orange and natural metal. The other will lose its nose to a C-131 to create the "ultimate long nosed NC-131 crew trainer" TM. In its place it will get a fuel tank nose in the vein of the XF-103 or Avro 730 and be done up as a bomber.

Been digging a bit.  Appears there was a 1/400 Monogram model of an even earlier prototype.

Still cannot find a 1/144 scale one.  Several diecast 1/200 scale ones though.

iv 2 versions of the Revell 200 scale twin kit in the stash, the initial release was in mustard yellow plastic in Boeing house colours, the follow up release being the PanAm version subsequently re-released recently and stil to be found in some hobby stores

the Monogram 400 scale kit was moulded in white and came with United markings, a really neat little model it differing from the larger kit in having canard foreplanes which do actually add a certain something to the model too, possibly a later?/earlier? design incarnation before attention was switched to a fixed wing design

cheers, joe

Fantastic Plastic also do the Barnes-Wallace "Swallow" SST.
A group of all the SST's in various national liveries would look really nice !

Swallow, Concord, Concordski, Boeings etc (I'm sure there were other serious designs out there) -- pity they're mostly in "fit the box" scales  :-\
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.

And if you find one - sell it, and the proceeds will fund your modelling for about a year!

Rare Plane Detective has several decal sheets for the SST in stock right now:

Indeed, I have the Draw Decal 2707 BA sheet, which is why I want the model.....  ;)

Not sure what I'll do the other model in, but RAF Transport Command would look neat, eh?
