someone on a predominantly armour forum i frequent posted this a while back..........place is full of rivet counters so not a surprise he didnt get much in the way of response   ;D

It may have started life as an M47/M48 but its not how its ended up now.  Looks like a Panther mantlet.  Its actually very atypical of late-war German tanks in that the turret is obviously cast.  The Germans never went in for casting on that scale, preferring to fabricate from flat plates welded together.

I'd actually say it was an early Leopard 1 turret, which was quite rounded.

Think so too!  :thumbsup: The flat, slightly raised plate around the hatches and the range finder ports also looks very Leo 1-ish.
