Thanks for all the kind words, you guys are going to make me blush. I'm glad ya'll like it. From here I can see the things I missed on so I'm not liking it quite as much as you guys.

I think it might not be possible to like it as much as we do.  That is a stunning conversion, and an excellent finish.  In all seriousness, it reminds me of those great Shep Paine dioramas from the old 1/48th scale monogram kits.

Excellent, Swanny.  As we've come to expect from your work.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Yeah, we all can see the bits we missed or messed up.  Not always noticeable on others builds.

Lovely piece of work Swanny, the detail is awesome.

We're all our own worst critics, so listen to what others say - it's damned good!

That's a beaut Swanny, awesome all round. Hard to believe it was a salvage job!

That's beyond impressive, Swanny! You totally nailed it on every level, from rust on the superchargers to the blotchy ETO camo! Five stars and then some!

Thanks a bunch for all the positive comments. This one is hanging from the studio ceiling now and I am moving onto my next super detail project --- a demonstration 1/48 Su-27.

...my kudos to this fine project.

The main problem with the YB-40's (and the B-24 equivalent) was that once the bomber stream they were escorting dropped their bombs, their bomber cohorts were lighter and MUCH faster than the still-heavy YB-40's, so the YB-40's lagged behind and got shot down on the way home. Too bad the YB-40's didn't have some RATO units in the tail to fire progressively so the heavily-laden aircraft could keep up with the returning bomber stream.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Thanks again, I'm glad everyone likes it so much. When I first took possession of this kit I was not even sure I would be able to save it. My first thoughts were it would be spare parts only then while stripping paint I decided I would use every resource at my disposal to save the model. I guess this just shows what can happen when you really apply yourself plus made for a great 'skills building' exercise. I wish I had kept the guys name and address that I got it from but that has been nearly five years ago now. Bet he would not believe what it became.  :o

Just saw the finished product and can openly admit that I'm overwhelmed.  Even as much as I have come to expect from any "Swanny" job, this one turned out way more dynamic and exciting that I had expected.  All round winner, Matt!

That's mighty high praise there John. Not sure if I can handle it.
