LCACs!

I have some spare 1/700 LCACs- would it be possible/practical to convert them into some anti piratcy craft or coastal strike craft? What would be the upper limit for missles/gun?

Harpoon? 76mm?

Looking forward to ideas/comments!

That depends on how much other stuff you're putting on it.  The LCAC is capable of carrying about 80 tons of "stuff".  Figure in crew, systems, armor, etc.  You may want to take a look at this:

My LHS has the 72nd scale version of this in stock.  If it was just a little cheaper (ok, maybe 70% off) I would grab one.

My LHS has the 72nd scale version of this in stock.  If it was just a little cheaper (ok, maybe 70% off) I would grab one.

1/72 scale? I didn't know anyone did one in that scale.

I have the Trumpeter 1/144 version and it's pretty good, real rubber skirts too (don't tell Radish........  ) but it still pales into insignificance beside an SRN4!

Those 1/700 LCAC's look great as Cobb's little pigs.

Here's mine:



The one in the middle is the closest to completion.  Twin 30's with pedestal mount rockets, SeaSLAM launchers, Tactical missile boxes.  It was hard to find the room at times, but it's a hoot bashing the little suckers together.

The one on the left is an ordinary build. The one on the right carries a turret from an M-60, with space behind for a few more Marines.

So they do! Inever knew that before.

I'm thinking that would make a good basis for a BH-7 Wellington with scratchbuilt upper works. They're about the same size.

Fit it with multiple MLRS as a more modern version of the old Landing Craft Tank (Rocket) or LTCR:

I found this notation in the Naval Institute Guide to the Ships and Aircraft of the U.S. Fleet:

The LCAC 66 conducted trials in 1996 with a 30-mm GAU-13 Gatling gun fitted in a GAU-5 pod; its purpose was to provide organic suppression fire to landing forces.

Wikipedia goes on to say:

The pod was mounted on a standard MAU-12 bomb rack, itself mounted in a standard cargo container. It was believed that four such containers could then be carried on the LCAC. The resulting combination was referenced as the Gun Platform Air Cushion (GPAC).
