Ideas for kit manufacture

Hi
I have a friend who is hoping to start producing 1/48th resin kits of secret project aircraft.
The first one he hopes to make is the Heinkel P1078 B.

Also he would like to know any views on what other WW2/50's secret project aircraft that are not currently available in kit form would be popular in 1/48th scale please?

Where to begin?

Although many of the Luft'46 types are of interest, some of the Allied stuff would be great too as would some of the Japanese/Italian projects.  Perhaps also some of the earlier war stuff that never really made it to production rather than only focussing on the late war exotic stuff.

This will take some thinking.  One I wouldn't mind would be a 1/48 CAC CA-4 Woomera:


Or a Fw187:



Perhaps also a 1/48 FFVS J22 (not secret I know, but still rare in kit form):

60-70s British is well served by others. P1127 is available from Airfix, no less. I'd rather have projects that aren't available elsewhere.

De Havilland DH.116 Super Venom. I'd prefer 1:72 scale though - I don't do 48th. Cheaper as well.

If your friend wants to go into the '50s, then how about a kit (or even a conversion) of the Hawker P.1081:

Before starting on this and not wishing to put any sort of dampener on your friends plans, hopes and desires. However, I would seriously get in touch with TSR Joe and gain some of his advice on the ins and outs of resin casting, masters, moulds etc, he produces quite a few and is in my opinion and probably many here classed as an expert in this field.
My suggestion would be to try something in 1/72 to test the water before jumping straight in the deep end with 1/48 subjects just so he does not get disheartened or shocked by some of the grim realities of the work involved. Joe can advise on this far better than myself, I hope this is of help.

However he has done it before and I think he knows what he's doing. The last time we was producing resin kits, he stopped due to pressure of work, but as he is now redundant he wants to pick it up again.

It might also be worth PM'ing Colin (Frieghtdog862) of Freightdog Models fame.  This is exactly the kind of thing that he's doing, but in 1/72.

Maybe look at Anigrand & Unicraft's back catalogue.  They have done quite a lot of subjects between them, mostly in 1/72.  Some of the popular ones might be worth doing in 1/48.  I think Anigrand's F-108 has been particularly popular & would make an imposing (if expensive) model in 1/48.

A few I can think of are the Hawker P.1121, maybe a conversion for a Hawker Tempest Mk.I & Sabre engined Fury?  Heh, I'm not going to mention the Fairey Rotodyne... oops!  To be honest that would be a very large model.  Luft 46 wise, there's not a lot that hasn't been done, although there should be some left in 148.  Focke Wulf VTOL comes to mind, Messerschmit P.1101 Ente maybe?
