that ultralite/cycle thing is very interesting, and i would hate to change the tire on the 4th one.that blue n ornge one is pretty cool with the tandem wings n engines. great posts!

I'll second that motorcycle themed machine. Thats about as close to the 'Rocketeer' as we are likely to get for awhile.

These are all amazing, both for aero concept and art.

Allow me to share a few of my prop aircraft whifs here for inspiration...  ;)

More will follow if you like them.

Beechcraft YT-34F Twin Mentor

Bell P-77C Airafighter

Bell/North American P-57A Airapache

Brewster XP-33 Bulldog

Bristol Beaumort Mk. I

Cessna XC-106 Cloudmaster

Curtiss TBC-1 Hellraiser

De Havilland Comet Trainer TT.1

De Havilland DH.98R Musketeer

Dornier Do 835 Libelle

Douglas P-48A Skyfighter

All of these (and many more) can be found:
* either in my gallery here on What If http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,26120.0.html
* or on my own web page: http://aviadesign.online.fr/main.htm

The Comet Trainer and the Musketeer are eminently buildable, oh yes!

Now where do the wheels go in the Musketeer...........? a la Barracuda perhaps?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Thanks folks! I have to say that the "Bulldog" was a real Brewster project (project P.33) and the "Skyfighter" is based on the second Douglas XP-48 project.

So you'd like more? Okay, let's see:

Fairchild XA-46 Kestrel

Fairey F.30/43 Arrow

Fairey Gumbo I

Fisher Body XF-959 Falcon

Fokker D.R.II Doppeldreidecker

Grob VU-32A "Egrett One"

Grumman C-104 Bobcat
(based on the real XBT2F-1 design)

Navy-Grumman XAN-1 Whirlcat

Hughes H-3

Hughes prop family:
XBTH-1 Hornet, XA-49 Hussar, XR-11 Hawkeye

(Please note that the Hughes XR-11 was an existing aircraft, but had no given name)

Of course, the Fairchild XA-46 and Hughes XA-49 will raise the same question as the De Havilland Musketeer, as to where the main undercarriage is located and how it retracts... I haven't taken time to think about that! Probably in the fuselage, for the Musketeer at least.

I'd imagine that the Doppeldreidecker, Arrow and Whirlcat are pretty doable... What do you think, guys?

More stuff soon...  ;)

PR19_Kit

Hm, why does the Fairchild Kestrel shout 'Flight of the Phoenix' to me?  ;D

Please tell me it has a mono-wheel main landing gear with balancers out on each wingtip.

And the Hughes Hussar looks great too, AND I have two XR11 kits......  ;)

Started these ones a while back, still need finishing off though.

I call this one a Crecy Fighter, the Crecy was a 2-Stoke V-12 with an exhaust turbine but this version would have an X-24 engine.
and exhaust turbine

This one would have two inverted V-12's in tandem in the rear fuselage, the rear prop attached straight of the rear engine, but the front prop would be connected with a long drive shaft ( a RR designed one which was used on there FTB aircraft)

The push-pull Mig 29 creation is really fascinating. Has a very Rutan feel to it.

I want one!

HERE'S another look at it, found on deviantArt.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

that Comet trainer was almost not a whiff -- apparently someone really did suggest that the DH.88 carry two 250lb bombs to Berlin & drop them on Hitler.  It had the capacity & range to do it but unfortunately sane minds prevailed  :-\
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.
