QuoteHardly, now if you'd said a principality inside Great Britain called Wales, you might have kept some credibility.

Check it out there is no country called Wales in the UK but there is a principality within England called Wales.

thats why we have English and Welsh Law as one and there is no Welsh representation in the Union flag.

Go through your history and tell me the dates this country called Wales exsisted.
Everything looks better with the addition of British Roundels!

So why did He fill it with the Welsh?    ;D

He had to put 'em somewhere and besides someone had to keep the sheep company.....

Not sure that this is really relevant to the concept of civilianising warplanes  but, if we're going to be pedantic, I think that you're wrong on all counts.

Collins English Dictionary, 2003, includes the following definition of "country": "a particular geographical region of indefinite boundary (usually serving some special purpose or distinguished by its people or culture or geography)" - there is no requirement for it to be self governing or independent. And the Complete and Unabridged Collins Thesaurus of the English Language 2nd Edition, 2002, includes Wales in its list of Countries

Historically, I believe that the English claimed overlordship of Wales, not that Wales was part of England. Several Welsh princes had their claim to the overlordship of Wales recognised by the English Crown, from Owain Gwynedd in 1165 to Llywelyn the Last in 1246. In 1267 Llywelyn was recognised by both King Henry III of England and the representative of the Papacy as Prince of Wales. Only after 1282 when Llywelyn was killed during Edward I of England's  invasion of Wales was Wales formally ruled directly by England. And while a principality isn't a kingdom, I don't see that it can't be a country.

The tradition of investing the heir of the monarch of Britain with the title of "Prince of Wales"  began in 1301, when King Edward I, having completed the conquest of Wales, gave the title to his heir, Prince Edward - a political gesture which wouldn't have been necessary if Wales hadn't previously been considered a separate country.

Also, Henry VIII passed the Laws in Wales Acts 1536–1543 - a series of parliamentary measures by which the legal system of Wales was annexed to England and the norms of English administration introduced in order to create a single state and legal jurisdiction. Again, Henry wouldn't have had to do that if Wales had never been a separate country.

And whether or not Wales is a Country, not even that aggressive English expansionist Edward I would have claimed that it was inside England!

And now, returning to normal programming - I like Tigercat's original suggestion of civilianising warplanes and I'm toying with the idea of crop spraying Il-2s or a Pe-2 based light transport. And Aeroflot actually used civilianised B-25s for a few years after WW.2.

The voices have been suggesting for quite some time that I do a civilianised, crop-spraying Ju87 in Lufthansa colours in a world where WW2 didn't happen (or ended differently) and in which Lufthansa was a multi-faceted operation akin to Aeroflot.

How about a B-36 conversion ?

Convair already did that, they called it the XC-99....... :)

You could do a Storch/Lysander/Birdog/Grasshopper
as a Smuggler aircraft a sort of Aerial General Lee much loved in the remoter partsof Cornwall and the deep South

How about purely civil versions of the Anson ... ?

The Avro 652A Anson was the military derivative of the Avro 652 four-passenger transport
designed for Imperial Airways. G-ACRM Avalon and G-ACRN Avatar (later renamed Ava)
were in regular use for several years on the Croydon-Brindisi run.

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Gulp! That's got to be a SERIOUS piece of plastic! Mr Hooker must have had a massive vacform machine!

All you get is the different fuselage, you need a B-36 kit for the rest of it.  Which I have   ;D    Mind you it's nowhere near as big as the 1/72 747's and C-5 I have.

Did you know that the real XC-99 still exists ? Down in the southern US desert somewhere, but mostly in pieces as it's being restored.

EDIT:   Just read on wiki, the whole restoration project is now at Dayton

Correct.  I saw the dismantled bits and pieces of it at Dayton when I was there last.  It is going to take decades to restore because of its size.  Pieces of it are bigger than most other aircraft.

Cheers,

Logan

As I recall the XC-99 spent most of its working life flying out of Kelly AFB in Texas, and when the USAF retired it in 1957 it carried on at Kelly as a monster gate guardian.

The people there must have though the sun had come out when it was moved to Dayton....  ;D
