In an old OOP book about Spanish Navy in 20th century, there is a note:
'in last 20s there was a project, vanished as many others, to build 2 battleships of reduced  british Rodney class.
Some speculations refer 30 000 ton displacement and 9 x 15 inch, in 3 triple turrets.'

I honestly do not know what is that reduced. Maybe a mention to caliber reduction.

Of course, my proposal is a little different.

As turrets would not be equal to those of Rodney, I decided to change its look a little, adding a kind of roof on each ...

Secondary artillery must be relocated ...

Nice idea. If you look at pictures of the Spanish Canarias class cruisers, which were basically British Counties modified to suite Spanish requirements with a very distinctive style, that might give you some ideas too. Having said that, the Rodneys already have some of the "modern" features that distinguish the cruisers from their British sisters.

Wiki article

Good site about both cruisers

I have to make some amendments in order to move turrets forward. ASAP you will see result.

BTW, why not torpedo launchers à la Graf Spee? It would be nice to hide some "surgery scars" ;D

Why torpedo launchers were not so common in battleships?

They're big, explosive-filled tubes sitting on the deck. Not good if a shell hits one! The big Long Lance torpedoes the Japanese used were especially dangerous - when under attack, IJN captains would often jettison their torpedoes to avoid them detonating if hit - they could easily cripple a destroyer or cruiser if they did so (see the heavy cruiser Chokai for a good example).

Because in order to get in close enough to launch them, you need a platform that has the speed and maneuverability to be able to survive the attack run.  That's one they were almost exclusively on DDs and some CLs.  I know some BBs and CAs had them in the early 1900s but as they didn't keep them past the early 1920s.  It wasn't until they did away with specific anti-ship torpedoes and switched to ASW torpedoes that cruisers and the like got tubes again.

What Pyro said is also true.  That's one of the things they think contributed to the Hood sinking so quickly.  A BB or BC is just too un-maneuverable to be an effective torpedo platform.  Yes BCs had speed but you need both to make it work.

ysi_maniac, I am really looking forward to this build!
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

In this wiki article, devoted to Nelson class it is asays that these ships had 2 torpedo tubes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelson_class_battleship
But in the article devoted to HMS Nelson, TT are not mentioned.

Do you know why? Were they uninstalled later? Where were they?

Thanks,
Carlos.

The torpedo tubes were submerged on the Nelson class but as they were "regarded as obsolete their use was soon discontinued" ...Osprey British Battleships  1939-1945 (2)

I assume the tubes would have been kept but were simply left empty ?

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks! This explains the small circle you can see in hull in profile at the top of this thread.

This pic is from an Rodney model. Where can I see pics of real turrets?

Thank you in advance!

update ...

As mentioned before, turrets have been moved forward.
Bridge has been shortened and funnel just modified.

IMO main guns are always the top COOL in a warship.
