I had an idea the other day....

You know many air forces need to be cheap in their operational costs & some ECM pods have a limited number of chaff & flares(would be a major problem if you got a IR-guided Sidewinder on your 6:00 & all you have is chaff).

The possible simple solution would be to combine both chaff & flare into a single cartrige.

Options include:
                        "Burning Tinsel"- flaming chaff so hot it would decoy sidewinders & S.A.M.'s at the same time.
"2 compartment"- a cartrige with 2 sections, 1 flare with other containing some chaff.

Instead of 60 flares & 40 chaff cartriges in a ECM pod, it would be simpler & cheaper to have 100 "combined".

Could be also useful for flypasting celebratory fireworks(or a good reenactment of the final scene in the Return of the Jedi, where X-wings(& various other rebel starfighters) flypast with fireworks while a celebratory party is celebrating on the ground on Endor).

Could be a silly idea, though...

It's a good idea, very handy against folk who like to fire SARH and IR homing weapons in the same salvo (US tactics in 1960's I believe...)

Just make it nice two ended cartrige wit hchaff in one end and a flare in the other.

load the flare end down so it can be ignited at launch and have the chaff end on a few seconds time delay to get slightly clear of the aircraft.

Or the flare could also light the fuse to blow the chaff canister....?
