Locally produced fighter 1943-45. Based on the inline "Wildcat" designed for the Fleet Air Arm, the "Jabiru" was produced from Grumman Wildcat components shipped to Australia, and re-engineered to work with the Allison engine by CAC. Major subassembly work done by Holden Motors.

I still need to finish it off, ie: serial numbers, nose art name, dullcoat, weathering, etc etc. That's when I usually screw something up!

By the way, who on here did the profiles of the hellcats with inlines? That's where I got this idea from a couple weeks ago, and I'd like to thank them.

I used two venerable Monogram/Revell kits, the P-40 and the F4F Wildcat, in 1/48th. The P-40 nose was blended into the Wildcat barrel shape with a plug of balsa, sanded and filed and shaved and puttied and shaved and sanded ad infinitum.

Stupendous sir

I'm currently trying to produce that SW Pacific scheme on a real world project, think I'll have to go back and do the white again looking at that. You are an inspiration Alvis.

There is something about all your models that just makes me smile  Great work

Nicely done.  But somehow, that combination of parts just look strange together.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

But that's a GOOD thing here!!

Nice work.

>[EdS] Nicely done.  But somehow, that combination of parts just look strange together.<

I think it is a matter of CoG, looking "nose-heavy", or something. I took the liberty of using a photo-editing program to bring the wing and cockpit a little forward here:

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

That does look a little bit better. Only a little bit as the original looks FANTASTIC    :drink:

Love it! This is another moment where I can't help but be supremely awed.
Getting back into modeling

After I got it assembled, I realised it looked a tad front heavy. However, my research indicated CAC took the into account, and loaded the plane with a 745 pound lead weight in the tail to counterbalance the aircraft. It did impede performance, and the Spitfires soon replaced them.

Err, I believe that would be me - sorry everyone ;D:

The first would be a trial bird, whilst the second is closer to the production variant.
