Airfix F-111 instructions issue

I decided to build a very early issue of the Airfix kit-has anyone else found the instructions for the main undercarriage as baffling as me?

ABSOLUTELY!

I did  a review of it for Scale Models a century or two ago and said that. Actually I think I said it was impossible to build if you followed the instructions, but the Editor said I couldn't say things like that and to resort to '....due to the complexity of the landing gear the instructions must be followed very carefully'. What a cop-out!

I think I solved it by comparing it with the Revell kit I was doing at the same time and following my nose.

I dug out a later airfix F-111 instruction sheet and all became clear. Primer on now-I forgot to take any pics though
