Thundarr the Barbarian.  Yeah baby.  These guys redefined cool yet corny cartoons back in my younger days, and I've always had a fondeness for them.  I managed to catch the entire run recently on Boomerang, and I suddenly got nostalgic.  I figured I could always make the figs in 28mm.  I've seen a couple of good takes on it, and I erm, "borrowed" some of the base figures.

Pics in order: Who I'm trying to make.  Then the bases for Thundarr, Princess Ariel, and Ookla

Pics tonight hopefully of post construction, pre-paint.

Now with real pictures!

Ariel turned out fine, I really only softened some lines to make it look more like she's wearing a one piece as opposed to a bikini.  Ookla went through major changes, losing hair, and a nose!  He got more sculpted hair, some boots, and some pants for decency.  ;)  Thundarr went through arguably the most changes, have his hair resculpted, gaining a fur vest, and bracers.  I really love how he turned out and I'm looking forward to painting all of them!

28mm? And I thought 1:144 aircraft were small!

I have no idea what cartoon you're on about, but they look cool, and nice work so far

I have vague memories of this cartoon.

Mentally I always confused with the "Herculoids":

Upon reflection, they have almost nothing in common.  Nice figures!

Ookla no want pants!  Ookla got it, Ookla flaunt it!  Why you think Ariel got big smile?

They got pushed to the back when I started painting minis for my D&D game.  Thundarr got as far as base coat.  Hopefully, I'll be picking them up again in early 2011.

So yeah, I actually finished these! It only took FIVE YEARS! Heh. I have no real complaints, this year has been extremely productive, partially making up for the last 5 or so.  ;)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

They look great.  I don't think it came over this side of the pond (not that I remember anyway).

I don't know Thundarr but I've got a similar fondness for He-Man, which seems to have a similar look.  If Thundarr had come over this side of the pond, I'd probably have lapped it up.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
