Hi all. Does anyone have a 1/72 Ki-46-III they would be willing to part with? The one without the step in the canopy. Really I only need the fuselage and canopy.

Cheers.

I hesitate even mentioning it, and don't mean for it to be a tease, but I *MAY* have an extra for you, just not in the near future.

That is, I have a planned future project for a "twin-engined Zero" ("Zeb"--short for "Zebulon" to keep the "Z" in there for a Zero/Zeke derivative) that shamelessly uses an LS Ki-46 III as a basis, with the distinctive Zero single-seat canopy and a "solid" nose with guns in it. Below is a graphic of this concept, not originating with me (sorry to say), from some other post on this site.

I have two such Ki-46's, but I always try to have a "spare" of my kits to use if something goes wrong. Once I build it, I will indeed have the "spare" available if I don't use it. But it is far down my pipeline of projects to do.

I know that once inspiration hits, you want to get on with the project. *IF* you can stall off the project and do something else, there MAY be a Ki-46 III in your future. I know that's "iffy", and if you want to get on with your project now you'll have to find another Dinah. I would hope they would not be that hard to find.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Yes, indeed beautiful!

Supposedly this successful Japanese reconnaissance plane (Ki-46--III) was contemplated by Germany for actual production for the Luftwaffe. One of "my" whiffs that I will NOT be doing was a version in Luftwaffe livery, with Japanese 6-bladed props (from the Shinden).

Someone else can do that if they wish!

I prefer the more "radical" whiff of using the Ki-46 III for my twin-engined "Zebulon".

Wow! That is one beautiful painting. Can't wait to see your Zebulon. It should really be something.

The Ki-46 is a real beauty indeed Tophe. It's a shame I'm planning to cut it up.   I was thinking of joining the forward fuse. to a P-61's wings/tail booms to make something reminiscent of Boulton Paul's P.97, as on this page: http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,17868.15.html

I don't want a whole one, just the forward fuselage so I figured I'd ask if anyone here has got one before heading off to ebay. Don't ask, don't get.

Thanks for the offer, sequoiaranger. When you get round to doing your Zeb, send me a pm and we'll see where we both are. Do me a favour in the meantime? Post all your planned builds somewhere. If the Zeb is that far down the list, I gotta see the rest!  ;D

>Do me a favour in the meantime? Post all your planned builds somewhere.<

I have six "planned builds" posted in my gallery, each with their own page:

http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=9

Included are two "Judy" variants, a "Bison" (Buffalo upgrade) re-build, two Heinkels, and a twin Shinden. I most likely will put several others, as "teasers", in the gallery for my planned builds. The "Zebulon" was a fortunate accident because someone posted that painting of the twin-engined Zero (I think it is actually a Japanese model kit, somewhere, and unknown scale), and my mind saw "Dinah"-with-a-Zero-on-top. I rummaged through my small stash for the "German Dinah" I had planned, and there were parts of TWO Dinah III kits in the box. Besides the "Zebulon", I have maybe 20 or so others WAAAAY down the pipeline. I actually (shudder) have a few RW aircraft I would like to do, too.

**[edit]**Oh---I found, in an old post, some "Luft '46", or Germanic whifs that I had listed for a GB thread. They are in no particular order of building priority. All will be 1/72 scale. If you are interested:

1. He-211 (four-engined He-111, one of my "famous" builds from a long time ago):  "Phoenix" re-make, putting the 1/60 Lindberg Heinkel He-111 fuselage to work to enlarge the Italeri/Roden one presently part of the build. I would keep the extended wings as-is.

2. Bf 209 H/Traeger:  Use a tall Me-209V5 tail on a Snap-Tite (1/64) Bf-109, Bf-109 "H" wings, and Ki-100 engine/forward fuselage.

3. He-121: High-altitude interceptor based on a 1/100 He-111 (for a 1/72 scale build), with twinned engine driving one propeller. Will look like a He-119 with a cockpit on top. Ar-234 wing extensions. Probably Japanese markings, however, but originally bought from Germany.

4. Current Project: He-113M: Desert He-100 follow-on, using "Nanzan" forward fuselage, Mustang tail, and He-280 wings. Livery as German-traded-from-Italian, with Italian camo overlain with some German markings.

5. Me-262K glass-nosed bomber. Multi-engined jets (maybe fuselage AND wings).

6. "Mein Flucht" Hitler Berlin-escape machine with Hitler, Goering, and Hanna Reitsch figures. Combo of Do-335 and Ar-234.

7. Ta-152T: Extended-wing, two-place torpedo-bomber for German carriers. Will use Nichimo 1/65 Fw-190 for base, increasing length a bit (will be more "balanced" for wingspan-to-length ratio).

Ya know, maybe I will put this list, and add my others, into my Gallery as a "page".  Thanks for the inspiration, sideshowbob.

sequoiaranger, I've sent you a PM. Maybe the mods could move this into the Idea Bank or something?
