That's the Fairey P.24 Monarch.  ;)

Oh crap! Yes, the FAIREY Monarch. What the heck was I thinking when I posted that? I blame old age and a wildly mis-spent youth.

Thank you for pointing out my lame-brain mistake.

A very good article on the P.24, from the Old Machine Press site, it's a great site for motorheads.

The article features proposed developments, including motor-jets.

I too found that article.  It's worth a look.
This gives me some ideas for the Airfix Battle in the stash.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

There's no substitute for cubic inches!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Although forced induction can go a long way to making up for a lack...

Very true. (says he who's cars both have turbos.  ;D And no, they're NOT diesels!)

But they had to, flying at their altitudes.  ;D

And if you are not allowed either then just rev like crazy.

I was once standing next to a Yamaha RA31 (V4 two stroke 125cc grand pix bike - peak power at 17,000 rpm) when it was started up and then revved.  I think it might explain some of my hearing loss...
