72nd Catholic Bishops/Cardinals

Daft question, perhaps but does anyone one do figures of these in 72nd? 

Further to a post in the Stash thread, I've a resin kit of a Da Vinci designed "tank" and have always intended on painting it red, with a Spanish Inquisition flag and three particular Cardinals to go with it.



I don't think anyone would be expecting that at a show!

I know someone does priests for the Spanish civil war in 1/72 white metal but the name escapes me .  I will have a think and get back to you

Check out Preiser - I know they do the Pope in 1/87th and I'm pretty sure they do generic priests as well (he's going to be pretty lonely on the station platform if they don't, isn't he?).

Off topic, they've just released Barak and Michelle Obama figures....

They do pilots figures too, so a simple headectomy should get you Cardinal Biggles....

Thanks, Weaver.  I had a feeling that Preiser might but wasn't too sure.  Hmmm.  £4 a figure seems a bit steep though.

A fair few wargames companies do priests and monks etc in their medieval/rennaisance ranges Lee. Will be 25mm scale.

These really look proper Inquisition monks and friars.
Inquisition was made of ordinary monks and friars, not high rank cardinals. Their dresses were never red or purple, but brown, beige or black.
BTW: Where can I get these figures?

Bear in mind though that medieval monks and modern Catholic priests/cardinals are not the same thing, particularly with respect to capes and wide-brimmed hats.

Ysi - you're correct, but I think Lee specifically wants the Monty Python ones for comic effect....


There's an upward size trend in wargames/RPG model figures, with bulky, cartoon-like styling making them appear bigger than the technical definition of their scales:

Wargames/RPG 20mm = 1/87th to 1/72nd scale

Wargames/RPG 25mm = 1/72nd to 1/48th scale

Someone won the GOlden Deamon (Games Workshop painting contest) diorama category around 2000 with a diorama called 'No one expects the estallian inquisition' featuring converted versions of each of the characters as a Mordheim Witch Hunter warband. It was 28mm scale of course, and made use of heavy conversion work.

Pegaus Hobbies do a Californian Mission Indians set in 1/72.  They're monks again, but probably close enough for comedic effect with a bit of light conversion work to the heads; a ring of plasticard, an Airfix Spit pilot & a simple sanding job.  They're less than a six quid a set & you get nine monks in them, you should be able to find three that take your fancy.

There's a similarly named set in 1/48 too, doesn't include the monks, but there's a Padres & Indians set that does.

fairly close apart from the colour although being metal limits the conversion possibilities

A suitable head for Inquisitor Biggles can be found in the recent Revell RAF pilots and ground crew set.
