Giant/Monster Tank Query

I'm torn between the US-made 105mm Gun T8 (this might better justify having a demolition gun and possibly a HE thrower in the hull) and the German 12.8cm Pak-44 (big gun for big tank...... sounds natural  ;D) for the turret armament......
[/quote]

I tried the 120mm. Its big. But it does a good job. Even at taking down bombers!

I will try the 105mm gun T8. Then the 12.8 cm pak 44.
I have heard it, it was close, a shock to my ears, i new i had to duck in cover, for if i didn't i would sure die... for i pushed the wrong switch, that caused chaos to everyone and me!

Okay we have a problem, there is only one german turret on a tank that has a 128mm gun. And thats the Maus. That has a 55 ton turret. I have set your tanks max weight of 90 tons and thats suppose to be with less armour and its still got the same chieftain engine. Its slower but it still moves and turns. Slowly. Unless you have a bigger engine. You may have extended the chieftain hull. But the distance from the turret to the back of the tank is still the same.

Maybe you want this.

Maus turret also has to accommodate a co-axial 75mm/L36.5 gun- I don't know how significant it contributed to the Maus being the only vehicle to carry the 128mm gun in a traversable turret though.

If that wouldn't work out, 105mm T8 it would be then.

The hull, however, is wider (done to maintain proper length-width ratio) and has a somewhat higher roof (flush with the Kanonenjagdpanzer fighting compartment I slapped up front; I did try to keep everything to the same scale).  That, I assume, would leave a bigger engine bay to the back.

Then came the fact that I haven't gotten around to do size-growth control...... I merely replaced what was originally in front of the Chieftain tank's turret with the Kanonenjagdpanzer fighting compartment and then widened the hull solely to stick within that 1.8:1 ratio.  Might need help optimising the thing (preferably to the point of just having seven pairs of road wheels): might I move around, for example, hull ammo storage to make use of some of that surplus width and therefore reduce length?

Gundam anime series also have their own line up of monster tanks (land battleships, basically); examples:

  • Big Tray (hovercraft type)
  • Dabude (propelled by treads)

Probably best if you send me what you want. Maybe a cross section. I need to know what it looks like. I need a top view. Try to make just the hull with no added bits. I will make hull first then start adding small detail.

My Super Tank would smash them, well if i had continued making it. Even made a model out of knex... But i was happy with the knex model.

I need a top view.

Even though this is again a preliminary drawing, I got a funny feeling that I tried to stay true to what I described and what I had in the side view, only to find out that much of it risks being thrown out......  :banghead:

Yes, yes this is great.

Can i have a new side view like that and maybe a front view, that would be appreciated.

You will be glad to know the T8 105mm works great AND i have made the turret turn. Oh, another thing. Have you any ideas on what turret you want.

I intend to use the Chieftain turret.  Maybe it would be cosmetically-altered (I haven't figured out exactly how it will look), but for all intents and purposes a Chieftain turret underneath the cosmetic change and you can feel free to use the stock Chieftain turret for the prototyping run.

Also, would you define "great" with the observation on the T8 gun?

===========================================================================

And any advise on if and how I can optimise the length and width of the hull would be as welcomed as always.

New preliminary hull side and front views; wheels were in the side view just for the looks (since the related issues from suspension scheme to the number of road wheels are not yet determined), and a version without them is also included.

Judging from the hull-mounted gun barrel...... I suppose your method would be good for longer-barrel mortars (so that they would leave too-big of an overhang); short-barrel guns, on the other hand, can just be mounted in the same way as the 90mm gun was on the Kanonenjagdpanzer.

Just an opinion.  Probably not necessary for prototyping purposes.

Hull complete.

Exactly as you wanted. You cant see the edges that well but they are there.

I need to add tracks or i wont get anywhere. I will do that and finnish the last bits.

I said the gun is great because it has deadly accuracy, good at destroying armour and its in a chieftain turret aka good turret made for larger gun.

No optimisation i see is needed, the hull is good size.  One step closer to your goal.

Oh, one reason i put the gun further into the hull is for turning. I mean. So i dont hit anything. I tried driving the mock tank through a car park.

Actually, how do you think of the Leopard 1A1 turret as the basis for this super heavy's turret?

Oh. I have now added tracks. I will send a picture tomorrow.
I will try leopard turret. Nite Nite. Me sleepy.

Thats all i am doing for the wheels. I am going to begin adding the Leopard Turret.

The Apocalypse tank, a continuation of the Mammoth Tank idea down the Red Alert storyline, although IMHO this has some T-34 and IS-1/2/3 flavours mixed into it.

Maybe an enlarged T-64/80 built to a quad-tread and armed with a 152mm gun and a co-axial machinecannon would look pretty cool, too- another potential idea for my bucket list......
