They're currently offering a free head-band mounted magnifier and light if you spend £50 on the website.

What website?  I go to it and all I see is a notice saying they've gone into administration.

I posted that back in May, before they went into administration.....

Indeed you did.  Serves me right for reading pages out of sequence.

Seems all of the shops are gradually closing (very sad day for the Manchster Deansgate branch, whih has been a model shop for at lest 50 years).  Holborn at the end ofAugust.

Most of the shops are said to be closing on 28th July unless I heard it wrong. If Holborn is closing at the end of August, does that mean they plan to move all the unsold stock there as a final clearance?
Are any of the other stores in the same situation, maybe further north?

Mossie

Isn't Holborn the one that just re-opened?  Maybe the later closing time is something to with terms of the lease or other red-tape?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

It is indeed

I have info that Crawley will be closing 24th Aug.....

the Birmingham shop doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry to clear stock if they are closing anytime soon, very little seems to be shifting at 20% off, seems punters are waiting for the final death throes when the prices should start to plummet...

Mossie

Same in Hull, if anything there seems to be even less people in.  They started with a 10-30% sale that very quickly became 20-50% although the kits have remained at the same 10% discount.  Either they're holding off as long as possible before dropping prices radically, or they're maybe getting a good resale value on the kits so not worried about flogging them off.  20% off isn't bad, but it doesn't tally with the 'everything must go' posters.

Croydon is actually getting new stock in  :o :o They think end August for closing

Been quite busy when I've been in. Lots of mum's with kids and the hols have just started in Croydon *

Going to pop in tomorrow for paints, glues etc

* Problem is - what happens if little Johnnie or Susie get into modelling ? Where do they go for their kits ?

No problem at all. Little Johnnie and Susie are so internet orientated they will not have any problems once they are in to modelling.

The one in Glasgow was busy when I was there. I agree tho that 20% wasn't much of a draw. I would have bought a lot more at 30-40%  But then again, I wish I would have bought more anyway....like those Roden 144th scale kits  :banghead:

Yup I suppose I'm showing my age Jim.

I just have this problem with paying postage on the cheaper kits. Expensive ones no problem but I object to having to buy Airfix through the post. It seems to go against my rights as a British citizen  :banghead: Just have to get the tram to Hobbycraft. Always full of women though........actually hang on there for a moment......   ;D

I'd imagine their stock from the big manufacturers is probably on concession, so what they don't sell just gets returned to the supplier and they get their money back, so that's maybe why they're in no hurry to give it away.

NARSES2

You are almost certainly right Mike.

Must admit I've taken advantage of the 50% paints and glue offer.

Staff in the Croydon store are surprisingly cheerfull...good on them  Mind you the young lass who works in there was complaining yesterday because she was doing all the humping from the stockroom downstairs to the upstairs part of the store. Told her that her mother's generation had had to fight tooth and nail to get her that equality  ;D ;D
