Hey Guys, What If The B-52 was Used to Carry a Modified Bomarc Missile or Other Missile to Within Range for a Surgical Strike? the Idea hit me while thinking about the Bomarc & The B-52. Think it would work? i was Thinking the Modded Bomarc could be used to Shoot down Soviet Bombers as they were Taking Off or In the Air. i was Thinking with Other Missiles,like Nike Hercules,Honest John,Etc. for Strikes Without Warning. It would depend on the size and weight of the missile; try looking those up and see if they'll fit the B-52. The B-52 would also have to carry the guidance system; from what I remember, the Nike Hercules needed a pretty big radar set.

You would be better off arming a B-52 with AIM-54 Pheonix missiles then a Nike Hercules. The Nike Hercules only had a range of 60 miles and either a 2,000 lbs HE warhead or a 2KT nuke. The Radar set to guide the missile and locate Russian aircraft needed a whole bunker to work from. The ground clearance would also have kept it from even being mounted ont othe pylons.

The Honest John was an unguided ballistic weapon, so it wouldn't be well-suited for air-to-ground use.  The B-52 already had the Hound Dog, the SRAM and later the ALCM.
