Kits with extra Bits

Okay, here's an idea: lets make a list, for the benefit of one's fellow whiffer, of kits that have particularly generous or useful extra bits in them. I'm not taking about minor "aerialology" or weapon loads, more major structural items that will be left over for the spares box no matter what version you make.

I'll start the ball rolling with a few off the top of my head:

Airfix/JB 1/76th 105mm Light Gun: not only includes two complete guns, but each gun has short (M119) and long (L118) barrels, so you will have two barrels spare.

Airfix/JB 1/76th Saracen APC: includes both small (Mk.1) and large (Mk.2/3) turrets. The turret base and gun barrel arn't duplicated, but that's easy enough.

Revell/Matchbox 1/76th M3 Stuart/Honey: includes both early riveted and late welded turrets.

Airfix 1/76th M3 Lee/Grant: includes both Lee (small MG cupola) and Grant (no cupola but big bustle) turrets.

Airfix 1/76th Scorpion/Scimitar: includes guns and mantlets for both Scorpion (76mm) and Scimitar (30mm).

Airfix 1/72nd F-4C/D/E Phantom: includes short and long radomes, different undernose fits, and two sets of engine nozzles.

Revell/Matchbox/Extrakit Meteor1/72nd  NF.11/12/13: includes both greenhouse and bubble canopies (and matching decks), long and short intakes and three radomes (one of which is totally bogus).

Smer single-seat 1/72nd Me-262s: include a full set of nightfighter radar aerials.

Heller 1/72nd F/TF-104G Starfighter: includes complete single and two-seat front ends, complete with canopies and cockpits.

Heller 1/72nd J-35 Draken: includes canopies and cockpits for single and two-seat options.

Heller 1/72nd Viggens: include canopies and cockpits for single and two-seat options, tall and short fins and alternative radar and camera noses. Late AJ-37 boxings include the Oerlikon KCA cannon housing from the JA-37.

Revell 1/77th "Classic" Ford Trimotor: boxed with early airlines decals, but was originally made to comemorate Admiral Byrd's polar expedition, so includes ski u/c, a sledge, a dog team and two guys in arctic gear.

Revell 1/72nd Blenheim: includes ski undercarriage for Finnish option.

FROG/Novo 1/72nd Tu-2: includes ski undercarriage for Finnish option.

Airfix Mosquito NF.II/FB.VI/FB.XVIII - alternate nose section for FB.XVIII.  Rockets spare if nightfighter option chosen. 
Matchbox Mosquito B.XI/NF.XXX - alternate bomber and night fighter noses.

Tamiya Mosquito - all variants have standard sprues with a specialised one for the variant on the box top. The rockets are left over if the bomber option is the one bought, plus alternate wheel hubs.

MPM Spitfire PR.X/PR.XI - alternate rounded rin/rudder for early mark Spitfires.

CMK Spitfire F22/F24 & Seafire F46 & FR47 - alternate tailplanes

AZ Spitfire F.XIV & F.XVIII - Both kits contain the same sprues for the F.XVIII.  Alternate rudder and wingtips for the F14 are left with the F18

Airfix Dambuster & Grand Slam Lancasters - includes all the sprues for the original Lancaster, so all the turrets are there plus the bomb doors and full bomb load.

Hasegawa Lancaster.  Standard sprues mean that each kit has optional tropical intakes for the engines, camera fairing plus the glazing for GR variants and the Village Inn AGL.

Special Hobby Hawker "Baghdad" Fury T.66 - original Sea Fury kit sprues plus new parts for the two seater, means all the fuselage parts for the single seater are left over, plus the tailplanes and resin cockpit.

Academy 1/72 F-8 Crusader - It's a little thing, but all of the boxings of this kit I have seen include a pair of Matra Magic AAMs.

Italeri 1/72 Jaguar T.2 - Packaged as an RAF trainer, this kit includes all the bits for the strike versions, less the nose.

AZ Spitfire mk1, Mk 2 & PR1 G. All kits have three props, early 2 blade, De Havilland and Rotol.

CMR Spitfire mk 1 - alternate props (see above for types) but two of each!  Plus alternate exhausts and canopies.
CMR Spitfire Mk IX "Rolls Royce" - Spare HF.VII wing  Spare prop I *think!*
CMR Spitfire F.IX - Spare wing - normal span or clipped.  Spare prop I *think!*
CMR Spitfire LF. XVIe - Alternate wings for wartime or post war. Spare prop I *think!*

Valom Brigand - both early & late canopies included.  Buckingham kit may have Brigand canopies included.

Hasegawa Spitfire mk 1a - Alternate two and three blade props plus alternate early and plate canopies.  Rest of the kit rubbish but wheels quite nice.

Xtrakit Spitfire F.XII - Alternate tailwheels and wheels, the latter having the wheel hub covers.

Airfix Spitfire PR.XIX - spare tailwheel doors in the closed position.  Quick swipe with a scalpel opens them up for use on other Spitfires converting fixed tailwheel to retractable.  Alternate wheels.

Magna Seafang/Spiteful - alternate props & tailfins

Aeroteam Spitfire F.21 - alternate 5 blade standard prop and 6 blade contraprop

Fujimi D4Y Suisei--there are some parts differences between various versions, but ALL the inline versions have the radial engine piece.

Dragon 1/700th Charles F. Adams class destroyer: late boxings of this make early USN, late USN, German or Australian models, and so include both Mk.11 and Mk.13 SAM launchers, ASROC and Ikara ASW launchers (the ONLY Ikaras available AFAIK) and a multitude of different radar aerials.

Airfix 1/72nd A-26/B-26 Invader: includes both glass bomber nose and solid 8-gun nose.

Matchbox 1/72nd B-25 H/J Mitchell: includes both glass bomber nose and solid 4 x MG + 75mm nose.

Italeri 1/72nd B-25 H/J Mitchell: includes both glass bomber nose and solid 4 x MG + 75mm nose.

Revell/Matchbox 1/72nd He-70: includes both in-line and radial (He-170) engine options, and single or two-place cockpits.

Revell/Matchbox 1/72nd Twin Otter: includes wheel, ski and float u/c, plus short and long noses.

Airfix 1/72nd Ju-52: includes both wheel and float u/c.

Matchbox Wellesley: includes both long and short engine cowlings, plus two dfferent props.

DMLs 1/144 EA-6B Prowlers - Has correct extra vertical tails and jammer pods for two separate EA-6A Electric Intruders.  You just need one of their A-6E Intruder kits for the 2 seater fuselage and some other assorted parts.

DML 1/144 aircraft kits in general - All have a plethora of extra armaments in each kit.  Much more than could fit on any one completed pair.  Mainly Sidewinders (M and X), Sparrows, AMRAAMs, Paveway LGBs, cluster bombs, Harpoons, HARMs, etc...  Some of the Tornado kits have some Euro missiles as well but I don't the types.

Tamiya's 1/72 Bell X-1 kit has almost two complete fuselages and wings, one in clear styrene to show all the bits inside.

the matchbox A-20G/ boston IV has both the bomber and gun noses in the kit.

the RoG halifax has options for the nose turret and bomb aimer, and the nose with just the plexiglass and no turret.

the airfix U-2 also has several bits in it that get left over depending on which version you build as does their B-25.

Airfix 1/72 Tornado GR.4.  Kit is a bit basic but is cheap enough to be worth buying for the extras to put on Revells GR.1, comes with a ton of modern RAF weapons too.

Airfix 1/76 Bristol Bloodhound, as well the missile & launcher you get a trailer, Land Rover (pretty basic mind) & several crew figures.

Airfix 1/72 Fokker Freindship, two prop & noses styles.

Airfix 1/72 Westland Navy Lynx HMA.8, still has the early HAS.3 options with standard & BERP rotor, two tail rotors, two different FLIR turrets, & two different solid nose options for the HAS.3 & Brazilian Super Lynx plus torpedoes.

Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Vc.  You get the wing from the Vb kit inclueded, as well as the Seafire arrestor hook option.

Revell 1/72 Eurofighter Typhoon single seater, similar to the above, a ton of modern European weapons options.  Doesn't apply to the two seater kit, I found this out by accident.

Matchbox/Revell 1/72 Twin Otter.  Has wheeled, ski & float options & two different noses.

SMER 1/72 Curtiss SC Seahawk, floats again, as well as the fixed undercarriage option so you can build the kit & have a single main float for kit bashes (works well on a P-40!).

Revell 1/200 Boeing SST.  Not so much extra bits as you two different kits, one in flight with wings swept, one on it's wheels with the wings forward.  So if you wanted to build one OOB, you've got another to bash/butcher.

Roden 1/72 SE5a, several prop & cockpit options.

This applies as well to any Dragon or Skywave/Pit-Road kit which includes some variation of the "B" sprue.  Depending on the kit subject, you can end up with loads of extra guns, missile launchers, antennae and various aircraft.  The sprue included in one of Pit-Road's JMSDF destroyers had a P-3 Orion, while some later iterations have AH-1 Cobras and other helos.

I've got an Arii 1/700 Spruance-class destroyer that has all the bits to build the ship, plus Mk.26 Standard launchers, 2 VLS blocks and Tomahawk ABLs, plus the bits to build a Pegasus hydrofoil and assorted landing craft.

Indeed, but those particular weapons, the Mk.11, Mk.13 and Ikara arn't on the B-sprue, so this is the only way to get them. The Mk.13 in particular is very common in both USN (upto 1980s) and other Western navies.

All Pegasus armour kits come with two vehicles in each box, which is good value for money, but their early KV-1 plus KV2 kit and their 2 x KV-1S kit both come with two turrets for EACH tank, thus giving you two spare turrets, whichever you choose.

Oh, forgot, Airfix 1/72 Vulcan.  It's got the only Blue Steel you'll find AFAIK, which a lot of people find very useful for whiffing.

I guess there's quite a few kits that don't have much in the way of extras, but have unique stores options that the parent kit can be built without.
