The P-61 Airfix 1/72 kit is the very source of my (mad) love for twin-boomers. Instead of doing better than my older brother that jealously got it (in 1972? when I was 8 years old), I will build my own completely differently, as an animal: 2 booms and 6 legs make a grand total of 8 legs, like a true spider... With evil eyes instead of canopies, no engine nor propeller because spiders are not machines, no wings because (common) spiders do not fly, no wheels because they walk and do not roll...

...the beginnings of a mad new creation!

Are you aware of the massive "spider" sculpture in Ottawa, Canada?

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Tophe

Well, I did not know this giant scaring spider!
My own goal is not to look like a spider as much as possible, like this, but not to look like a plane at all, rather to a spider. Here is the project, as CGI - a lot of work remains to make it plastic...

Most spiders have "palps", which are sometimes much larger than their legs, but kind of look like legs. The tail booms of the P-61 would make ideal "palps", but you would have to included another set of "legs" to make it a true arachnid.

Keep up the good work!

Interesting. Google confirmed with http://whatcom.wsu.edu/ag/homehort/pest/images/hobopalppict.jpg

But they are far shorter than legs, and I have not room enough for giant legs...

Gluing legs will be later. Now I have truncated wings, glued them, and added the first puty:

Well, a P-39 could use the F-86 snake decals at least... see http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/portland/971/boxart/matchbox/match_f-86a.jpg

Hmm. Intriguing. As a former Tarantula owner, I will watch this with deep interest. ( and no little amusement. )

If you should change your mind about the pedipalps, bear in mind that they differ from male to female-those
of the male are more elaborate, and are used as sex organs.

Tophe

Oh Lord... I did not imagine this pedipalp suggestion was porn... ;D

Building the spider's legs from two XF-85 Goblin kits of MPM plastic. Hey, this is 1/72 exactly as the P-61: I am so serious... ;)
