May the sensitive parts of the culprits be assaulted by the fleas of a thousand camels.

As far as curses go I do like the old Irish one.

"May the curse of Mary Malone and her nine blind illegitimate children chase you so far over the hills of Damnation that the good Lord himself can not find you with a telescope"

or for the more subtle at heart, the old Chinese one:

"May you live in "Interseting" times".

JimB
Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

That's a cracker, worth commiting to my fading memory.  Never knew Damnation was hilly, though.  Is it like the Cotswolds, then?

BASTARDS. Just discovered at least £400 has gone over the past month and a bit. I didn't think I'd used Hannants' new system, but I was obviously on the database. :banghead: Check your statements, people!

Actually its something in the banking sector, that they are keeping quiet about, i know because i just had my credit card replaced and i hadn't even activated the new card and number i had when the bank changed over !!!. Obviously i didn't loose any money but it just highlighted there is a security lapse somewhere in the system that been exploited.

The card numbers data has come from within the banking circles and i doubt Hannants were ever hacked, just the banks have closed ranks and kept quiet to prevent another drop in confidence in the banking sector.

Yeah, me too, over £700.  I was stupid, thought I'd got missed.   Started with a few smaller items, then several big ones.  I was talking to Duncan at Telford & he urged me to cancel my card, I fully intended to, but it slipped my mind.
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Fortunately the bank have been very helpful & refunded the lot.  I was worried they might not when because it was a copy of my card, but hey came for me.  I won't mention them by name, but thank you bank people!

I don't know Geoff, I haven't heard of anyone else being stung outside our select little gang.  It's possible of course that Hannants transactions have been accessed from some source other than themselves.

Personally, I would stress strongly that anyone who has ever dealt with Hannants to cancel your card.  Best to be on the safe side, rather than get stung.  Even now, they're still operating.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Several hundred people in the Seattle area were hit around the same time as the "Hannant's" incident, and these were after
transactions at brick-and-mortar establishments rather than inernet sales. Evidently the shops involved, all in the Capitol Hill
neighborhood, used the same 'secure' services firms to process credit card sales. BTW none of the affected businesses had
anything to do with the hobby trade.

Geoff's suspicions may be on the mark.

I've been "told" it's something to do with either the banks or a clearing companies sytems as well.

I got done when this all started, the banks sorted it out, but since then I check my accounts on line every day for new activity

And my card was zapped even though I'd never used it via their new site.

But Hannant's staff DID use their own site software to charge me when I was actually at their place. The new site presumably links directly to their stock control software (or indeed it may BE their stock control itself) and so they save time spent in double booking the transaction. It certainly looks as if the secure services people have some questions to answer.

i wonder if all these problems that hannants have had, could persuade them to start accepting cheques and postal orders again?

given that their adverts in SAM have for some months said that they were no longer accepting them as payment.

I just put a resumé of this story on another website, and several people came back with stories of recent credit card fraud attempts that followed the same pattern: small test debit followed by a larger one. None of these transactions had anything to do with the hobby trade either.
