Here is the thread I hijacked these pictures from, sorry I didnt post it earlier. But I must warn you, there is some wonderfully exotic stuff there and you may find yourself looking for hours!

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

OK, this thread has inspired me to try to build a couple of "more modern" vehicles in Imperial Ethiopian Army colours & markings.

Problem, I have no idea what markings or camo schemes the Imperial Ethiopian Army used & my Google-fu is weak, Masters!

The theory is that;
- in 1974 the Brit's & US supplied sufficient equipment, money & merc's to counter the Cuban, East German & North Korean input;
- Haile Selassie was not killed & his forces defeated the rebels;
- this resulted in Ethiopia not facing a further 17 years of civil war;
- Eritrea remains a problem until the early-80's when Arab Islamic clerics accidentally pronounces jihad bil saif (holy war) against all Christians in Eritrea;
- by 1985 Eritrea is split; the provinces of Bakara, Sahil, Senhit, Hamasen & Seraye becoming the "Protectorate of Eritrea" under Ethiopian rule, while the provinces of Samhar, Akale Guzay & Denakil are absorbed into Somalia as "North Somalia";
- British, Commonwealth & US forces are regularly stationed in Ethiopia but, officially, in training & supporting roles, whilst protecting the construction of an artificial harbour & port facilities in the Eritrean province of Sahil;
- 1990's see ongoing border skirmishes with North Somalia & Somalia, plus actions (with limited Kenyan support) in Sudan in support of non-Muslim rebels in Sudan's southern provinces.

So, what I want to do is a couple of 90mm gunned LAV-150's in action either in the Somali border conflicts or in Sudan.

Any ideas, people?

Anyone who can print decals if I need them? :unsure:

Thanks, in advance! :bow:

(ps: I'm putting this in the Camo & Markings forum, too.)

Obviously Burkino Faso takes great pride in its aircraft.  That plane is pristine!

Oh, I could /so/ get into this GB!

For many years I was involved in an Alt-World project online called "Ill Bethisad" (http://ib.frath.net for the IB wiki, in case anyone's interested... there is a LOT there - I joined the project in 1998, and it's grown immensely since)... my corner in that Altworld was Dalmatia and Dalmatian-speaking countries in Africa (LONG stories there, if curious, look it up on link! :P )

The tech level in that world is somewhat behind ours as far as aeroplanes go, as it was viewed there as a non-serious "toy" technology for a long time, and so ignored until recently. To give a suggestion of where current tech levels are, the first jet fighters entered service in the early 2000s - the Scandinavian "Dragen" (using the design of the RW Kyushu J7W2 Shinden Kai) and the Dalmatian "Spretu" (using RW's Me262 design). The only jets operational in Africa are the Spretu of the Malian and Togolese air forces, and the (likewise Dalmatian) "Biaspa" (RW Yak-23) of Mali.

But there are props aplenty, and lots of possibilities for me... aircraft like the Urakana (P-39), Taifun-II (P-38) and Taifun-I (Fw 189) are all in use by the air forces of Mali, Togo, Kongo, Gold Coast and the United States of Upper Nigervolta... La-11, La-15 and La-17 (the latter two being improved variants of the La-11) of Gabon and Kamerun... hmmm... there are so many options... :D

Here some roundels, which may serve as inspiration for others in designing fictitious African roundels...

Togo

People's Democratic Socialist Republic of Benin (used during the Togolese Civil War aka the Togo-Benin War, which ended in the re-incorporation of the secessionist Benin into Togo)

United States of Upper Nigervolta

Strangely enough I don't have a Malian roundel, but this is the national flag.

Gold Coast (which consists of Western Gold Coast/Ghana/Gold Coast Proper and Eastern Gold Coast aka Slave Coast aka RW Nigeria, the western/eastern designations came about after it was no longer considered politic to call it "Slave Coast" - this renaming happened already in colonial times)

Biafra (the Biafran war happened much the same way as in RW, with Biafra's territory ending up reintegrated into Eastern Gold Coast)

and there are yet others... hmmm. As I said, I could have a lot of fun with this!

When might this GB be beginning?   Do we have an approximate time line for the GB's this year?

TIA,

The rumor was mid February but the start of March will leave more time to get the word out/get ready  :cheers:
