I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Freightdog gets in too, the Silver Cloud EAP is the very first news item in the new mag, plus the Vulcan Skybolts get a mention further in the mag. Bit of a landmark for Colin!

Bagged my copy earlier today.  I've had a quick look through it & I'm quite impressed, the style deviates from the tired old formula used in SAMI & SAM.  Less criticism, comparing of kits & opinions, more getting down to the nitty gritty.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ian Hartup, now there's a name to conjure with.  ;D

He would have been the original OGL I guess......  ;D

i posted this in amongst an epic thread over on britmodeller on 08/11/10 and am repeating the post below. it's up to 15 pages this morning.

i like AMW quite a bit and bought the last copy in a coventry city centre newsagents on saturday.

can't find much to dislike about it to be honest.

its been many years [is scale models still available? i dunno] since there has been a magazine that tries to appeal across the whole
spectrum of modellers rather than just one area and i would say caters to all levels of model-making ability.

as modelling has enjoyed a bit of a rise in popularity since that james may TV series, if supermarkets are stocking it, many new modellers may not
want a magazine that is quite specialist as mags like say SAMI/SAM/MAI are so AMW might well be the magazine they buy.

issue #1 of AMW caused much comment at the model club on friday night though with the sea vixen artwork. just what were airfix doing with that
aircraft carrier?

Good thinking Howard, you could well be right about the need for a 'middle-of-the-road' modeling magazine.

SAM has become almost a clone of SAMI these days, and for the first time in decades I'm thinking of not buying every one. Perhaps it's time for 'Whiff Modeller Magazine'?

There are some mags like Fine Scale Modeler & Tamiya Model Magazine International, but it's good to have a magazine with a British slant.  I'm finding my tastes are starting to branch aout a bit, I've bought a few ship kits especially recentley & found myself eyeing up armour & sci-fi.

It's good to see a new mag that caters for this & I might ditch my subscription to SAMI, which I've found has become too commercialised & trying to be all things to all men (& ladies, & Radish) as well as flying the IPMS flag a bit to ferventley.

Another comment on teh style, it seems to be written in a 'how to' format rather than just a summary of the build.  I find in some other mags a build article might feature a heavily weathered model for example, but the text glosses over this.  I wonder if some of this is to try & attract kids back?

Ow, ooh, stop twisting my arm up my back...!!!  ;D I picked up Moebius' Iron Man earlier in the year with the intention of doing it oob for my comic nut brother.  I haven't got on top of it, the kit seemed to take more work than I expected.  A week or so ago, I had a bit of brain wave, he's just come out of the British Army so I might finish Tony in camo.....

Nice, I would so love to make a Dalek in the British markings from the recent Dr. Who episode.  Course, the Airfix kit is outside of my price range and no idea what I would do with the Sec version. :dalek:

Course, I plan on doing the Space Spitfire using the Airfix kit.
