TTA Avery Hornet

So I could not find anything that I could kitbash into this So here it goes my first total scratchbuild

Looks like a good start, Ron. Do you have cross sections drawn up to keep the fuselage sides symmetrical?

You already have a side view - unless you have a 3 view of the original, you can make a guess at the cross sections - just to keep the two sides equal.

I see what your saying. I have built bows before so I am basically using the same method to accomplish this. I color the wood I wish to remove and then sand/grind/cut the colored material away then repeat til I get the contour I am looking for.


They also included this smaller pic in the illustration

In that pic you can see that the bottom is smaller than the top so I have ground down the front sides



By coloring where I want to remove material I can keep everything even

What type of wood are you using Toolslinger, been thinking of a total scratch build for years? Looking forward to seeing these TTA builds finished, Doc Yo was doing masters for a couple including the Shark design painted by Angus McKie (think it's on the cover of Great Space Battles?) but I cant remember if he finished them.

Your method is basically the same thing. The paper model I linked to has internal formers that have an oval cross section.

It's basswood dragon. It is a little denser and heavier than balsa but I bought it at the LHS so it might just be a species o the same. I got to see Docs masters at the last show but they are not finished

Cross-sections and charts are for little girls (like me).  STS, he will simply wing it.

And it will be outstanding, as usual!

I definitely think it needs to be rounder in cross section. I am going to round off the bottom some more but I think I am going to have to furr out the sides with putty as they are too flat.

Possibly more pear shaped? The part under the nose looks to me as if it is added on rather than actually part of the main structure which could be a help.
