All these years I thought it was going the opposite way that that it was not the weapon firing in the picture but the engine  :banghead:

They look great - those beads look like they could also be useful for creating FLIR/EO turrets.

Hah! Glad somebody else said that, 'cos I did exactly the same thing! I must have read the bit about "hydrogen collectors extending backwards from the wingtips" about ten times before the penny dropped....

Just goes to show how different people "read" artwork differently, doesn't it? Even Stewart Cowley wasn't immune: there's a pic in Great Space Battles which he captions as "ship A colliding with ship B" but there are bits of ship A visible that couldn't possibly be if they were really colliding in the manner he implies. In fast, when you look at other Peter Elson artwork and get used to his weapon and beam concepts, you realise that they're actually flying past each other while exchanging fire!

There is also a passage that describes a "characteristic flare of light from their plasma drive"

looking good so far Ron :)

Ive finally got my hands on an affordable copy of the TTA Space wrecks book. I now have (after at least 12 years of searching) the complete set.
I always hope for the best.
