I've posted some shots showing a few details of the museum ship LST-325 as she passed by on the way back to her home berth following a trip up the Ohio to Pittsburgh late this past summer:

One thing I was thinking of was a steampunk gunship version - sort of a 2nd-generation CSS Virginia with casemated guns, a couple of stovepipe funnels, auxiliary sailing rig, handcranked Gatling 2ndry armament...you could land some sort of steam-powered fighting vehicles out of "The Wild, Wild West"

Got a few scrapes and dents over the years, hasn't she?

Looks like I have another reason to visit Pittsburgh sometime.

You're welcome to come visit the 'burgh, but the LST was only here for ten days or so - these shots were from her return trip to Evansville, Indiana

That's a big old piece of ship there!

Presumably she was sailing under her own power as I can't see a tow rope anywhere? I wonder how many other ex-WWII ships are still capable of doing that, and the big US battleships don't count, they've been fettled and re-fettled over the years.

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Yep, her plant is operational, and she was going at about four knots or so. They had real-time GPS tracking on the web, and IIRC she exceeded that during the course of the voyage, but when these shots were taken she was between two locks that were fairly close together, so there was probably not enough room to get her going faster than that.

Hi guys, this is a rw question but this is the research thread...

Does anybody have any decent drawings/photos/descriptions of the 3 lst(mk2) that the rn converted to fighter direction tenders (fdt)? I have found some info and grainy photos but not quite enough to mod a model to represent one. Turns out there is a bit of a family connection.

For info they looked like this.
