Concept rescue helicopter by Katsuhiro Otomo

Found on Adam Rowe's very interesting 70s Sci-Fi Art Tumblr page:

He has a Twitter account that's well worth following too: @70sscifiart

An accidental browsing find - might be a valid whiffing topic, though?

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I believe the guy is a journalist at least with a blog. This means one can nitpick a bit; the 40 Tornados to be bought in the 1980s was for Konya, the 3rd Main Jet Base. The need was filled by second hand Phantoms. While the 1st at Eskişehir will fly Phantoms to the ned of the world...

Looking for sci-fi art by the late great Peter Elson (featured heavily in the TTA Handbook series) I found this painting which I'd never seen before. That MiG-23-on-steroids would make a fine whiff, wouldn't it?

Image from here, where there's lots of his other stuff too: http://www.etoday.ru/2012/08/illyustrator-peter-elson.php

Edited 10dec15 because the pic wasn't showing.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
