a Dassault Mystère IV is US colours? (Matchbox has a 1/72 kit)

Obviously... but does not look official at all, even though the colors look authentic. The black underside make me wonder, though...?

Some googling revealed this here, though - could have been a ground instruction airframe in the UK in the Nineties:

This info: MD.454 Mystere IVA c/n 36
*5-NM.
*8-QL.
*8-QS.
*314-TE.
*1981: 8-MO.
*Put into storage at Chateaudun AB.
*Returned to the USAF. ( )
*6/1983: Assigned as a ground trainer to RAF Upper Heyford, England, as "8".
*1994: Salvaged.

Taken from here....

http://self.gutenberg.org/article/whebn0003115604/dassault%20myst%C3%A8re%20iv#cite_note-orbis-2

France was the main operator of the Mystere IV and at the peak usage operated 6 squadrons. Most of the aircraft were purchased under a United States Offshore Procurement contract and many were returned to US custody after they were retired.[2] In April 1953 the United States government and the United States Air Force placed an order for 223 aircraft to be operated by the French

Oh! and exact same paragraph is on wikipedia!

Dizzyfugu

Interesting...! Thanks a lot for digging this up.

AFAIK both planes were never tested in the air.

Does that mean they wouldn't fly???

Not much to be found on the internet, the last news regarding these aircraft is from 2007.

I'm in NZ and that project hasn't been heard from in years. Sounds like the writer has an axe to grind!

This is the type of whiff I like the most:

It immediately brings me into the mood of building something similar - only if I had the time...
The a/c is called a "Spacehawk" even if it's not a spaceship, but the lines of it are so-o-o-o nice.
I would probably get rid of the belly tank - such a beauty uses only unobtanium for fuel ;D.

I've seen this one before and it always looks awesome.
Didn't someone cross this with a Caprica type?

Aha! Found it.

Kerick, thanks for the link - it brought me to this one. Great stuff!

I"ll check my "Caprica" episodes tonight to ensure this

Me too!
I checked "Caprica" - the P-40 "Vipers" are there  - they fly in the virtual city, called New Caprica and are deadly weapons!

BTW the author of the Vipers Pierre Drolet, a fellow Canadian, has a large collection of probable and improbable  ;) flying machines here. Enjoy!
