AFAIK, Russia is currently working on something like Pluto, too. Pluto itself was a REALLY scary thing, the engine did ground running tests, but due to the missile's concept I'd really call it a doomsday weapon.

Thanks for the extra explanation, now it is clear for me I think.

Fuel in a jet engine doesn't 'explode', it 'combusts' i.e. 'burns'. (Exploding and burning are not the same thing.)
Maybe this comes from a translation issue: the English article
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reciprocating_engine
is in French
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moteur_à_combustion_et_explosion
(engine with burning and exploding) shortened at secondary school as "moteur à explosion" (engine with exploding)...
Is exploding a word to say that the flame position moves at supersonic speed? maybe not even in a rocket engine... (I was wrong). :-\ ;)

It looks like one of those issues of convention vs precision Tophe. That French article you cited seems to say itself that the term 'explosion' is actually wrong.
From the section 'Moteur à quatre temps à allumage commandé' (please excuse my use of Google translate: I'm terrible at languages):

Being technically precise (as opposed to common usage) an explosion with a supersonic shockwave is a 'detonation', while very fast burning without a supersonic shock is 'deflagration'. Deflagration is correctly described as 'combustion'. However it may be perceived and incorrectly described as an 'explosion' depending on the circumstances and the observer.

The fuel/air mixture in a jet or car engine deflagrates. If it detonates in the latter, you get 'pinking' which eventually damages the piston crowns with the shockwaves. Not sure that it can detonate at all in a jet engine, since the combustion is continuous, not intermittent.

In Tophe's defence, this:

explosion
[ ik-sploh-zhuh n ]
SEE SYNONYMS FOR explosion ON THESAURUS.COM
noun
an act or instance of exploding; a violent expansion or bursting with noise, as of gunpowder or a boiler (opposed to implosion).
the noise itself: The loud explosion woke them.
a violent outburst, as of laughter or anger.
a sudden, rapid, or great increase: a population explosion.
the burning of the mixture of fuel and air in an internal-combustion engine.
Phonetics. plosion.

The red is mine, not the dictionary's.  :)

I'd also like to say that, as a child, I was delighted when the adult explaining to me how the car engine worked, said the fuel/air mix exploded in the cylinder to make the piston move.

As a teen, I was saddened when a different adult diluted the whole effect by saying it wasn't an explosion at all, just a very rapid burn ...

I put it to the honourable gentleman that, whilst it may be wrong or technically incorrect to say "explode" instead of 'burn' - it's much more fun.  :)

What if the car explode all when you turn the engine on? (vision of nightmare?) ;D

According to Hollywood, it's the favourite or common way used by gangsters to remove opposition.  :)  I'm not a fan, though - it's very hard on the car.  :)

Perhaps you'd know the  answer to this - does anyone make a model of a Citroen 2CV, or the Citroen DS? I have a friend who builds only car models, and I like to give him cars I think he's never seen before.  :)

If 'teacher' is a synonym for 'Wikipedia Reader' then I'll take it...  ;)

Just call it a bang as in 'suck, squeeze, bang, blow' (make sure that the person you're talking to knows that the subject is internal combustion engines, however ;) :-X ).

I have to confess that fun was not the foremost thing in my mind when contemplating flying nuclear reactors... :o

'Suck, squeeze, bang, blow'     It's a very good shorthand way of explaining the Infernal Combustion engine!!

I too would admit to considerable concern when considering a nuclear reactor aviating over my head.  We would all no doubt prefer them to go and aviate elsewhere!

And one, one of my old science masters at school used to use.  ;D He also doubled as the master in charge of the half dozen old banger's parked on the apron of the junior playground that were used to teach some of the 3rd and 4th stream lads who would leave school at 15 the basics of car mechanics.

IIRC Tamiya did the 2CV in 1/24, and Heller did a DS in 1/16th.
And apparently Ebbro do a DS in 1/24.

Heller has quite a range of classic french cars in its catalogue:
https://www.heller.fr/fr/66-maquettes-voitures-classique

beware that they are in various scales, check the details.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Dizzyfugu

IIRC, Heller also did a DS or ID in 1:43, and Revell offered at least two 1:24 kits, even though I am not certain if it's a re-boxing or a genuine mold. Imai also did an 1:24 2CV.
