It has bits of XB-70 about it, the underfuselage engine pod, and the canards as well as the overall shape of the thing.

Not quite sure why it would need triple nosewheels though.
Maybe the weight of the  1960's  era goblin teasmaid in the crew lounge  made it essential

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I daw that on Facebook  last night, very interesting  reading.  I am just glad  nobody decided to  build anything like that.

Operationally?  Or experimentally like the NB-36H by Convair?  Which, incidentally, gave rise the the charmingly named Project Halitosis.

Carry over from the Vickers Type C bomber perhaps, a couple of the concepts had a 4-wheel truck for the nose gear.  You can see where Gerry Anderson got all his weird ideas from though ---

Operationally, I  class it as a very bad idea  as it could cause as much of a problem as a power station  melt down

Any agricultural equipment dealer where they use tires like that on vehicles used in paddy fields etc.

As an aside, talking about apocalypses, a strange news item on the TV a few days ago, a gun shop owner in Alberta was saying sales for guns has skyrocketed just lately ----   :o

Wiki has an article on monowheels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monowheel  It states that the speed record for one of these is just over 60mph.  Nearly 100kph in one of those..........not for me, thanks!!

I suppose that this is a suitable place to remind colleagues of  the Kugelpanzer  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kugelpanzer

Okay I see the sort of thing you mean, but the ones in the photo aren't nearly big enough. The tire in the monowheel art must be nearly six feet in diameter if you think about where the driver's head would come to if he got out and stood up.

Let's defend it:

You clearly wouldn't choose/build a vehicle like this for a post-apocalypse ride, but then you probably wouldn't get a choice anyway: you'd have to run with what you'd got or could find. If you're not building it after the collapse, then this kind of vehicle must be reasonably available before the collapse wherever/whenever the situation takes place, ergo, you can get tires.

So what kind of vehicle is it?

Maybe it's a 'clubman racer' type thing, i.e. something that an amateur can drive to a race meeting, modify a bit in the pits, compete in a race with, and then drive home again. The racing portion is just the monowheel bit, powered by electric motors and limited-endurance batteries under the seat. The 'trailer' portion is the practical 'commuting' bit, with a small turbo-generator that supplies sustained power to the motor (note the cables), carries luggage+tools and stops you falling over when you fall asleep at traffic lights on the way home. You load up your kit on the back bit, drive to the race meeting, disconnect the monowheel, do the race(s), then connect it all back up again to go home. This guy just took the vehicle he was most familiar with (and maybe emotionally attached to) and Mad Maxed it as a desert raider.
