Martin, Thanks for that, I knew it was one of those obscure US firms that did it.  ;D

Phil, You and me both! I have the Airmodel vacfrom 'kit' of the Huskie (the word 'kit' is used her in its widest POSSIBLE sense!) and actually started work on it decades ago, but it's one those jobs that have stalled for umpteen reasons.

Jim, Did they now? I didn't know that, and even a Mach 2 Huskie couldn't fail to be better than the Airmodel heap!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Have seen the Mach 2 kit and there is no way I am paying that kind of price for that quality of kit.  Would rather try the vac

They were the first USAF search and rescue choppers used in 'Nam.

You haven't seen it yet!  ;D

I'll try and find the darn thing and post some piccies, but it could be some time!

They had at least one Huskie at Upper Heyford when the 20th TFW flew F-111s from there, the thing used to clatter past on Armed Forces Day carrying a huge red 'water bomb' thing underneath it, but they never 'bombed' anything sadly. It always looked as if a crash was inevitable when the main rotors hit each other, but then they never did.......  ;)

Yep, at the root of it all is a Testor's 1:32 Huskie.  You'll barely be able to recognize that by the time it's covered in all the scratchbuilt bumps and warts I'm working on.

... two...  There are TWO votes for the Phoenix II GB?!  With this crazy thread, and everything else in the "On the Bench" forum sitting there unfinished, there are a total of TWO VOTES for the Phoenix GB?!

Yes, this was a subtle hint to GO VOTE FOR THE PHOENIX II!!!!!

Maybe the Phoenix II GB should just go ahead anyway (regardless of the vote numbers) to guilt some of you into finishing these!

Sure, we could simply do a shared thread.  I still have the first prize, unused, in its original box (first winner, Leigh, refused to accept it).  I would just want to ensure that at least 5 or 6 entries are going to be made----models that have a clear record of significantly stumping their builder over the course of time.  And we need to give people sufficient time to complete their models.  After all, these are subjects that have proved to be too much for the builder for one reason or another: they hit obstacles they couldn't solve or the project just exhausted them at some point, etc.

Here was Leigh's original winning model: a Saunders Roe 2.  A very worthy winner, I thought, but there hadn't been many (or any?) other completed builds so I believe he felt it hadn't been a fair contest and he wouldn't accept the prize (he had just moved at the time and I needed his new address but Leigh wouldn't respond to PM's or e-mails).  At any rate, he had his reasons and this prize has sat, unused, ever since (years).
