Howdo.....couldn't find a thread on this using the search..............hope this is the right place for this....if it is I would probably start a Ka-50 thread with same questions.........hopefully attract some pictures to add to the ones I have printed out.....H

I am looking for ideas for a possible load out on an escort version for my forthcoming Mi-24 Hind CSAR helicopter. This will be in British service. This would need to be reflected in the load out. I would also welcome ideas on colour schemes. The Havoc is one of a few helo's I have in mind as an escort. The others are Ka-50 Hokum and A129 Mangusta. As this is whiff land...ranges will not be a problem..!!!!

Hank, I'd go with Brimstone for your weapons, and maybe whatever the latest FFAR pods are (CVR-7?).  That'd give it a Brit feel.  As for schemes, you could go with the black/green wrap they used to use, an overall green (more likely) or even a snow wrap camo.

On another related note, I did a Brit AAC Ka-50, 52 & Mangusta for Euan back in the day.

What if Mil wanted to show that whatever Kamov could do, they could do - the result a single seat Mi-28:

Oh gentlemen....thats the spirit.....awesome profiles Mav.....I did a Ka 52 Alligator that is on the site somewhere in AAC colours.....
GTX.....great profile.....is the tail boom shortened...?

If I went with a two seat Havoc (although I love the single seat profile n wish my skills were upto attempting it....) would it be counter productive to have a fixed gun pod on one of the stores stations..? Sort of for the pilot straight ahead....I know the crew can probably overide each other on the trainable gun.....or am I just trying to justify beefing up the armament...?

Posted this in the helo fighter thread already, but thought it might be good to have this here for research purposes as well.

Found something by pure chance! Seems the Russians are trialling a quadruple AAM launcher on their Mi-28N.  :o The missiles look like SA-18 Grouse/9K38 Igla to me.

The bigger version shows that the missile tubes still have the flip-out sights!

8 AT-9 Spiral/9K120 Ataka ATGMs
40 B-8 80mm unguided rockets
4 SA-18 Grouse/9K38 Igla AAMs
250 rounds of 30mm cannon

Quite amazing what this beast can haul around!

Looks to me like there are _six_ missiles on that pylon, not four, when looking at it from the front.  I count six nose covers.

I thought that at first......but looking at the side view....there appear to be only four tubes.....the centre n slightly lower cover doesn't appear to have a tube that extends as far as the outer four.......

Brian,

I thought the same, but the centre 'covers' have rivet heads on them that aren't present on the actual AAMs.

Yeah, I also thought there were six of them, but then found the rivets Mav found and that there's no missile tube in the middle when looking at the side view.
Looks like the modular design of the launcher could allow for another pair or two to be added to the launcher below the first two pairs. Seems like this launcher is made up of two similar launchers bolted together and then bolted to a pylon adapter.

Looks like the Russians saw "Firebirds".  In that movie, the AH-64s carried wingtip launchers for Stinger missiles, and when one of them was shot down, the crew were able to dismount one of the launchers and fire it from the shoulder.

Was that also called 'Wings of the Apache'....? Was there a Drakken involved as well......?

^ Yeah, that's the one!  Crappy film, but, hey, who cares? It had helicopters in it!  HELICOPTERS, baby! And the heli in-flight scenes were rather nice!

Moritz
