When I lived in Germany 76-78, the Weser was close to bursting its banks through the town of Celle.
(As A child) Very exciting time to watch the water rising, near the bridge & wier near the NAAFI.
Obviously as a child you have no sense of danger or, maybe I was just told it was more dangerous than it was!?
