Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

That was the way the US ID'd it's planes in WWI.

It's not a retro scheme, per se, but the first F-35C has gotten a commemorative paint job for the Centennial:

And a nice photo it is!

To me, the F-35C is the the current real-world embodiment of Kit's adage that any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings.
For some odd reason, I think the C looks so much better than the A or B.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but I removed all of the attached images from this thread to pull them off the server.  That said, I didn't want to deprive anyone of them, should they still be interested.  I loaded them all to a Photobucket album which I have made public:

There haven't been any new images for a while, but this morning they posted this air-to-air shot of the China Lake F/A-18.

Gorgeous shot!
Are there any other shots showing the load-out of this particular plane? Would be interesting to replicate with TwoBobs' 1/72 sheet.

Moritz

I haven't seen any other images of that particular aircraft, other than the static shot posted earlier.

This is the final retro paint scheme for the series, though to me it seems a little redundant.  A T-6A, painted in the colors of VMF-312, circa 1950:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I'm honestly gutted they didn't do any 50s/60s hi-vis schemes. :(
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

^ +1!
Here's to hoping the Marine Centennial next year will remedy that!

Almost forgot about this. TwoBobs posted a couple more great in-flight pics of this >>HERE<< on ARC.

I hope the USMC does more 60s and 70s schemes as well. There is hope, This Hornet is supposed to be a throwback to the F-4s of VMFA-232. Note the anti glare, white rudders, and white nose (only see those on aggressors, Normally) Just missing the gloss paint and the white moving surfaces.
