1/72! At least one internet shop is offering a 1/72 Heller A380. It is not in stock yet though, so i suppose it's pre-order. If it is not a mistake...

1/72 is a ridiculous scale. I have the huge 1/144 Revell kit built up, hanging over my bed, and thats a monster. It almost has to bank to get through the doors...

Digging a little further, I'm wondering if it's a typo.  I found it in the Creative Models Ltd Catalogue.  It's listed under Heller 1/72 Gift Sets & is given the code 1/72 HEL52908.  I've Googled Heller 52908 & a few sources bring it up as a 1/125 A380 gift set, although at least one other source lists it as 1/72.  So I'm willing to bet it's a version of their 1/125 kit, which is huge itself, but you never know.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I always wondered about that scale. Most airline modelers do 1/144, and that gives Revell an edge. 1/125 is close to the same scale, but a bit larger. Why?

Green Dragon

Being French Heller were using Metric scales (1/50th, 1/100th and 1/125th for airliners). Most companies settled on the Airfix Imperial scales (1/72nd and 1/144th and the US Quarter scale 1/48th) due to the extra detail in 1/72nd over 1/100th and for the fact you can get more airliners in a limited space in 1/144th. 1/48th was used because it was a quarter inch to the scale foot giving good detail and a good sized model plus easy maths transferring plans from full size subjects. Or so I seem to remember! I could be wrong but that's the way I remember it!

A lot of airliner kits were 1/96 scale, half the size of 1/48 or 1/8"=1'-0"

Was just checking Hannants for the B-18 and noticed that they have a whole lot of Heller stuff in the latest releases. Looks like the whole range might be back. Hope so, there was some nice stuff there not available elsewhere.

Also noticed that LF have released 7 transfer sheets entitled Latin American Vibrators ???  :o Something get lost in translation ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

ive seen quite some Heller rereleases in the shop here to, but its kinda dissapointing to see that heller in some cases more then doubled the price of certain kits, for what i have to pay now, they cound have done an effort to make some extra detail in they're kits or even now moulds  :-\

The A380, despite being listed on Hannants as 1:72 scale, has an accompanying box artwork that shows it to be the 1:125 kit that people have mentioned. If only...

Well, I'd buy one.

I assume you'd start living it it?  A 1/72 one would be HUGE.   :o

I wonder if we'll ever see their modern Swedish kits released?  Their Lansen, Draken and Viggen was sorely missed by me.

The Heller Lansen was a beautiful kit, a surprisingly large model too, the Viggen is i think stil the best representation of the type, altho the moulds are getting tired and date from the mid 70's. The Draken kit has been superseeded by the more current Hasegawa examples (i soo wish theyd followed with a new Viggen) the old Heller kit is stil worth picking up tho, accurate in outline and has options for photo recce nose and two seat canopy, the latter 'fittable' to the Hasegawa kit

cheers, Joe

I have a Heller Draken in the stash purely to build as a two-seater.  The Viggen was AIUSI, the most accurate on the market.   I'd dearly love a Lansen but they go for silly money nowadays.

Message from Hannants:

QuoteWe have recently heard that Heller have been declared bankrupt and no buyer has yet been found. It might be a good idea to stock up with Heller kits

Considering their previous alliance perhaps the latest version of Mr. Hornby should take note!

Are we sure this isn't a swifty by Hannants to get shot of their Heller stock?
