I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yup, got my notification today.

Now just have to decide whether to order it direct from Airfix or pick it up at a show ? Probably the latter as I have a large order with the Big H in at the moment. Mind you next show is probably Farnborough in September, so I may fall victim to temptation as it does look nice

Hannants are flogging off the old Airfix Lightning F.6 (with the tailless artwork) for £12.66:

Sounds well worth a few quid invested, after all, the plastic IS all there.

And I did just that.

One weirdness I've noticed about recent Airfix packaging is that one side of the box is always printed upside down.

OK, I know that makes it simpler for them to print the lid out all in one piece and fold it up etc. but just switching the artwork of that one side around 180 degrees would take less than a second, even with the somewhat basic PSP4 package that I use!

What's all that about then?  :o

No idea Kit. I can't see any advantage, indeed it annoys me a little as it appears to be the side showing the markings options which is upside down *, so it must be cost ?

* Just had a quick look at recent stash additions and this would appear to be the case.

Is it the bottom of the box? Whether that is upside down depends on how you flip it (over the long side or the short side of the box).

PR19_Kit

No, I'm talking about the long side of the box.

If I look on the lid the correct way up and I then turn the box so that the lid is away from me the visible long side is right way up. But if I turn the box so that the lid is toward me the long side facing me is STILL the right way up.

While I can see what they're trying to do it doesn't make any sense if you're rotating the box about its vertical axis as then that long side is upside down. It's only the recent packaging that's like this, and AFAIK no other manufacturers do it that way.

Next time they are at a show that I am at, I shall ask them

Of course historians have never been able to pinpoint when the great 'Boxgate' scandal that brought Airfix to it's knees actually started .....  ;D
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

There will be a reason for it, which I suspect is to do with stacking or displaying the kits so they can be read a certain way.

NARSES2

That was what I thought Geoff, but if there is I can't see it. Whatever way you look at it one long side, normally the side with the markings options on, is upside down. If that is right way up then the box is resting on its box top illustration ?

As said next time they have a stand at a show I'm at I shall ask.

Yep, they're designed to be stacked so the main box art is showing.  All you have to do then to see both long ends is twist the wrist.  In another life, I worked closely with marketeers on product development and presentation of the product was very important to them.

It doesn't work if the boxes are stacked short end on though, which you see sometimes. Saying that, they probably work on the basis that most people will flip it to see the lid then turn it to see the ends. Not everyone does it the same way of course!

Thank you Mossie, and sorry for doubting you Geoff, I've just tried that and it's as you say  Problem is you vary seldom see them stacked "properly" in that case. I tend to only see models on sale at shows now and most traders seem to stack end on.
