Yeah, it looks like someone grabbed a low angle image off the web and "made it fit".  ;D

That's the box art from the original 1987 release, so I don't think they got it off the web...

Well then, I guess they just grabbed a crap stock-image.  ;D

That looks so like the Testor's box from the original movie.

it's just a very low-angle image, maybe taken from the catapult operator's perspective?

Is this the original boxing? - http://www.vintage-airfix.com/airfix/top-gun-specials/mavericks-14a-tomcat-p-999.html

The Testors / Italeri original box has this identical image https://www.scalemates.com/kits/testors-273-top-gun-f-14a-tomcat--281445

I remember seeing the Skyhawk box in a charity shop years ago, should have bought it then!

What's the kit actually like ?

The more I look at it the more it becomes clear it's the same crap photo of a crap build-up of the kit.
The splayed out stbd. gear is pretty obvious.

The Wooksta!

The kit is like the film - a parcel of crap.

The F-14, F-5 and A-4 all have new boxart for the upcoming release...which is very frustratingly not on Airfix's website but has been seen at shows around the place. Not sure what will be in the boxes - lots of folk on BM have noted the Top Gun: Maverick Hornet has the parts count of the old F/A-18A/C kit, when the aircraft in the film is an E...

Been looking at some of the "new" 1/35 scale armour, especially the Hetzer as I've always had a soft spot for the type.

Anyone know the providence of the kit and if it's "borrowed" tools what it builds like ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Dizzyfugu

Scalemate claims that it is re-boxed Academy kit. But this is IMHO not a bad thing, and the mold is relatively new (2012).

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)
